Year is 1953. Can feel the vibe -glorious sky, British fashion, shining chrome whirling on by.
Silent and watermarked but seems a better copy. Guessing its from 16 mm film.
All sorts of observations, even little things. Funny how many empty Coloral (note: anodized) water bottles are tossed to the curb. Who would've thought the silly money they bring today. Note the gearing and then when they hit an incline.

Love those bikes in the '53 video. I've been reading a fair amount of cycling books lately - just finished 'The Eagle of Toledo' and 'Eddie Merckx'. Makes me wish America had a racing backround like Europe does, it's so cool to see races live.

Thanks for posting the vids. Interesting stuff there. The guy that went by 2:23 into the first video looked like Rod Stewart.

Excellent post and great linked vids, Eileen Sheridan was an amazing woman cyclist. She is one of the forgotten cyclists, she never gets her proper respect, IMHO

That's a great video. What always sticks out to me is how the rider/frame size fit has changed so much. That and the difference in gearing/cadence.
Here is a link to the 60 Cycles video documenting a big race in Canada back in the day. Old racers/classic machines and surfer music!

Quite the thrill. A lot of different jerseys out on the course, not just the big names. Racing films are nice, my attention is drawn to the everyday aspects of British cycling on film.
Thanks for providing the culture.

Makes me want to ditch my helmet. Those plastic monstrositys have really changed the look of cycling.
