oh, oh, oh, I just added an ace in the hole: just picked up a 1965 Schwinn Twinn. I'll get the '37 Chrysler out in a week or two for it's spring cleaning. Photos are coming, I promise!

I found a two-fer at Safeway today. A quick lunchtime ride on my modded Bianchi to gather the ingredients for a sugo ala putanesca, and Lo, there's a '65 Suburban 2-Door parked nose-to-nose with a '50 Ford Coupe!

Alas, no doubles allowed (no repetition of bikes, no repetition of cars, per category 2 rules!) so I'm scoring only the '50 Ford and the '82 Bianchi (67 + 35 = 102 years) Another 102 points for me. Here's the rat rod Ford and the rat rod Bianchi:

I cannot credit the mods on the Ford, but on the Bianchi, @rhm represents Joisey with that custom-skinned leather saddle, and the rack is West Coast Cool, with torch wielded by none other than Portland's own @gugie.

The bar tape is tres Caveman

And here's the '65 GMC for 0 points:

By request of a fellow forumite, I'm going to go back and tote up a leaderboard for both categories. Here's a start:

Category 1: Oldest single bike + car combo: @frameteam2003 - 200 points! Post #35

(c'mon somebody, take this guy down!)

Category 2: Highest cumulative score unique bikes+cars: @oddjob2 - 462 points!

And for the one millionth time:

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN CAR.

Once again, here's the rules:

(1) Must be your own bike
(B) Car must be OLDER than bike
(3.1) Your own car is allowed, but anyone's cars/trucks are fair game. NO motorcycles.
(IV) Because I said so, that's why.
(5-ish) Both must be parked out in the open air; street, parking lot, cattle pasture, etc.
(#duh) Car and bike must be in same photo, obviously.
(Z'''最初) Both bike and car must be in (apparently) operable condition

Two categories:
Category 1 is oldest overall combo (1 bike + 1 car)
Category 2 is highest cumulative score of all your legit entries (and no using same bike or same car in more than one picture).

(So take your old bike out riding and find some old cars.)

Here are my favorites from the 1970's, Paramount and our Westfalia. This is from today on my lunch break. My first outing on the mountain with the Paramount and it was sweet!

Best to all, Jeff

Proposed rule addition: Age of Auto + age of cycle - age of owner. Because we should have some love for the younger folks enjoying classic stuff! (This is a not-so-subtle rule change to my advantage. I own both a 1967 Galaxie 500 and a 1984 Univega Sportour, and I'm younger than 30.) Pictures to come when the weather dries out.

I'm cool with that, for the reasons given, and I've got nothing to gain personally...
But, how to verify? I guess photo of owner with bike and/or car would be required, along with photo ID showing birth date.

Of course, the photo ID can be redacted to deter identity theft, but should show the state of issue, birth year, and validity date,
...but anyone posting photoshopped submissions should be flamed, then banned.

This is an interesting thread.
I would use the honor system on the age thing, who wants to show a bad DMV photo and if some us "geezers" want to shave off a few years well we're only fooling ourselves.
I think it would have been equally as interesting if you had to actually "own" both the car and the bike and not stumble across an old car at a car show....but as stated "rules not made by me".

As much as I love children, I think it's a little too late to change the rules in favor of youth at this point. In fact we've had one one exceedingly old C&Ver (jimmuller) lobby for just the opposite of what you're asking; oldest bike + oldest car + oldest rider.

Ya got that right! Those rules were made by ME, and don't you forget it, bucko! As I mentioned upthread, the whole point of this thread is to get people out riding on their old bikes in search of old cars. And yes, car shows are good hunting grounds. It's not really about your personal garage queens; it's about what people are out driving in the open air.

As promised, a sunny and 65F day, the 1937 Chrysler got it's first drive around the block - found out the brakes have a bad grinding noise and one tire was flat this spring... projects.

Here are two dusty classics:

Enjoyed riding around on my 1966 Schwinn Super Sport yesterday and I came across this late 70's MGB with a bonus, 80 something, Pontiac Fiero in the little town of Stayton Oregon, near where I live. Foiled by the "car older than bike" rule, but posting anyway as don't see many MG's around here. Don

I was hoping you'd come back and post that one for points, I think that might be the 3rd oldest car on this thread. Now go out on a different bike and find some more :thumb

Makes me pine for my old '70 MGB GT. That was fine car until I stuffed it under the rear bumper of Toyota pickup. Old lady crossing (against the light) and the Toyota in front of me had better brakes than the MGB. Of course everyone who's ever driven an MGB knows that everything had better brakes than an MGB

Water under the bridge.

I snagged a beaut this weekend, '69 Z/28 while out riding on my fake Legnano Velo Cheapo ('78 Apollo). Just a really, really perfect 302 + 4 speed Camaro, absolutely lustworthy, parked in a semi-abandonned mini-mall in Gig Harbor, WA.

Another 87 points for me.

OK I think I got the rules covered plus I paid more for the bike than the car. My 1983 Chevy Cadaver topped with a La PreAlpina bike rack, remember those? My '88 Bianchi Super Leggera is on the drivers side and the '82? Austra Daimler Olympic or was it ultimate? is on the passenger side. Even better the pic was taken outside the Bike Nashbar store in Needham Mass.

Now I just need to learn to use my new scanner, printer, copier, espresso, taco folder "all in one"

DAMN! Took me how many months just to get one on the board

I'll have the Mondonico cleaned up and out on rides before the end of the month... but I'm gonna need to find some serious old cars to get any worthwhile points. Anybody know where I can find a 1901 Mercedes?

I'm gonna suggest a new category for this game: Oldest combo both owned by BF member. (it's nothing to do with my personal interest in winning something )

Hi Bianchigirl,

If you really meant to write Chevy "Cadaver", that's the funniest post I've seen in months!

All of the AD Olympians I've seen have been tan/beige and the '82 catalog confirms for that year ("golden sand"). The catalog says the '82 Ultima would have been green, and I think even green enough to look green in that picture. Could it have been a Vent Noir or possibly an SLE? (I like ADs! )

Yes I did. I forget if I started calling them that or if I heard it from some other driver.

IIRC it was a beautiful purple with gold graphics, 531 and SR all around. It was a beautiful bike until his second bad accident that season, then he stripped the paint off and it went down hill.

That sounds like an Ultima, but maybe earlier than '82. The information still available is quite sparse on these, so I don't know much.

Here is my '85 Torpado Super Strada with a '31 Ford pickup.

That makes 32 + 86 = 118 for me.

Is it ok to have a bike and car of the SAME vintage? I'll be posting (if I can figure out how to get it off my camera) a pic of my '73 MGB GT and '73 Raleigh International (frankenbike).

BTW JIMMULLER, I'm there (68) with you ... 69 in 6 weeks.

Is it ok to have a bike and car of the SAME vintage?
Yeah, we ruled that as acceptable back on the first half dozen posts; post 'em up and score 'em!

My entry today, is themed All-England Classics: 1957 MG Magnette saloon (60) + 1972 Raleigh Super Course (45). Another 105 points for me. And with that, I believe my 473 points have supplanted @oddjob2 as the Category 2 (most points accumulative) leader. Shots fired, OddJob!
