I remember a very "unique" bike on C+V but I don't remember a whole lot of details except that the front fork had forward facing dropouts. Almost a gravel tourer or something? I want to say it was a GT, but that could be way off.

Hope someone can remember this, it's driving me crazy. I cant search for "GT" on here since it's too small.. ugh

Thanks

Ross did bikes like that with both forward and rearward mounting possible. Early version of lawyer lips. Roger

Yeah, I picked up a his'n'hers matched pair of ~1979 Ross Super Grand Tour Professionals and the fork end was just like a capital letter C. I can't remember if it was facing forward, or rotated 90 deg clockwise, so the gap of the C is facing down. I can't believe I never shot a photo of it.

I think it must have been a fairly effective retention technique, because those front wheels were fairly tricky to take off even with the skewer completely removed

GT made a bike with 700D (that's right, not C) wheels and had those dropouts, I think. Tachyon?

Yep.

Now, whatever you do, DO NOT think about "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet.

With a time machine, I'd undo that and "The Boys are Back". Two of the worst of the 70's, imo

Adjustable trail, probably, although I don't know how much you'd get or if the average rider could tell the difference. Don't know if I could.

I can see 'em in the product planning meeting now, "Who cares what it does? It'll be the differentest looking thing out there!"

What? Those are both great songs! You can love them ironically, or just for the iconic guitar licks.

That's the one! Some googling says it was a way to change trail and people say they can tell, but how much is placebo or not?

That is a truly fascinating design, and what an incredible job you did of finding it, from the OP's description.

You are a modern day Sherlock Holmes.

I have a GT 700d bike. I forget the name but it's splatter terquois color , the next model down from the Tachyon. The front fork is not adjustable. I remember for years folks wanted crazy $$$ for the last or the 700d tires. I am told 650b will fit.
GT also made a tandem with the 700d wheel size. Bianchi made a couple of bikes also?

Nah, not so much as you think. When I was repping one of my dealers had one as his personal ride and all I had to do was try remembering which, come to think of it, at this age is getting to be quite a challenge. I do like information retrieval, though. I remembered the wheel size more than the fork tips, and the name just popped up. Finding the pic was nothing after that and the OP had already gotten the brand right, which is what really simplified it.

That shop was in Burlington NC, so the bike may still be floating around the area if the OP want to keep an eye out.
