Seattle Bike Swap
@satbuilder's thread reminded me that I was going to post a thread on our swap meet, too. It's this Sunday at Warren G. Magnusson park, Hangar 30.
Map here:
Map here:
Myself and Alex Moll will be sharing Booth 36. I need to get rid of a couple wheelsets, a pair of rims, one bike and some small parts. I'm more interested in the atmosphere, and finding one or two bits for the Colnago build. It's been quite a number of years since the swap was held at Magnusson Park, and it's a great location for me as it's only 30 minutes down the road from my new-ish place.
Hope to see some of you there.
DD

Hey DD!
I'll be in booth 35, wearing a yellow PaceLine cap. I'm mostly trying to clear out the parts bins, a bunch of $5 stuff and $2 stuff and a bunch of old clothes. Not too much stuff of interest to the folks here, but you never know. I will have my 61cm Litespeed Classic f/f/hs for sale, and a mid-'70s Univega Sportour which was my wife's.
See you there.
Drew

Thanks for posting that was a fun event I was able to get some bling for the Olmo. I just about bought a Schwinn Paramount, but all I picked up was some campy record break and found a contact for an Arai drum brake.
DD, Drew good meeting you.

Sorry, didn't take any photos. There's really not much to take. Picture an old aircraft hangar and a bunch of guys and ladies, all just a little bit off in one way or another, and table and bike junk everywhere. That's what it was. There were a few nice bikes and frames. I picked up a VGC Sekai 4000 frame and fork and a few parts hung on it, including an original Crane derailleur and must-be-first-generation Dura Ace hubs. Also a Stronglight roller bearing headset and a nice Nitto front rack.
It was great to meet Drillium Dude and Mr.66 (?) and a few other guys.
Traffic was kind of low this year for some reason. But I'll probably be back next year selling more stuff. I gotta feed my habit somehow.

Sorry, I didn't get pics, either. But I met Drew, Dan and David, so that was cool
I got a chain (which ended up being four links short, but I fixed that) for $3, a pair of brake cable inners for $1 and a nice Nitto B115 bar for @Wildwood for $5. That was a steal - the sleeve was perfect and they were right in his narrow sweet-spot with a 39cm width.
I sold a pair of NR levers and the old Avocet headset that was on the Colnago before I swapped to the NR unit. Made a grand total of $5 after factoring in the selling space fee
It was quite different than swap meets of the past. Smaller, for one. No big rush for vintage stuff, for another. And wow, it's expensive in this part of the world and it shows at things like this. They spend all their money on rent (and tats, and piercings and ear gauges - never saw so many of those in one place!) Bunch of cheapskates
Oh, and a lot of lookers - I must have seen 10 guys who came around looking at my two wheelsets on at least 4 occasions each. Not a one asked if I'd be willing to bargain. I ended up taking them back home. No skin off my teeth there.

Been a long time, but I used to go every year when I lived in Olympia. Haggling was the best part for me, and the really good stuff went fast, sometimes before official opening time. There were always good buys during the last couple hours on anything left unsold. Have to make an expedition up there again sometime just for old times sake. Don
