It's St Davids Day! Time to post the CCRT spring ride!

5th (or 6th, I don't remember) annual C&V season opener on the CCRT. All welcome, C&V or not.
This year Patriot's Day weekend, the traditional date, is also Easter weekend, so I'm not adverse to scheduling a different date. Input welcome, and will come whether asked for or nor, so have at it.

I'll get it started. Since I'm already on the Cape any weekend works for me. Already put in for time off a couple times in April so if it coincides with that fine & if not still fine.

Last ride there was an attempt to do a French bike group shot & I think there were only 2 of them. Any thought to expand on that, some other theme, just the usual run what ya brung fun.

As long as nothing untoward happens (like my twin brother deciding to drop in) we will be there! It looks like April 15, Saturday. Yes?

Despite the recent snowfall we're only a month out. 15th it is. I suspect I'll have my daughter's boyfriend in tow, as he's riding the Trek Across Maine with me in June and I have to set up the '94 Cannondale for him and acquaint him with cycling.

You may have your work cut out for you. But at least he should be motivated!

I installed new rings and timing chain on the tandem a week or so ago. The bike is poised and ready to jump.

I've been thinking of this event recently as I grind away on the stationary, looking out the window at the snow drifts, watching the dead leaves whipping across the surface on the arctic wind, the dark clouds scudding behind the bare tree limbs and the poor sun squinting thru the murk like a Dickensian wraithe hidden in a London back alley masked by the the dense fog.

Seemingly no hope but Accuweather says hope springs eternal and temps will rise, the Cape will melt and all will be well by the 15th. I'm ready. The bicycles are arguing about who gets to go.

Little Rail Trail update.
Looks like they're going to hang the superstructure across 137 end of this week. No work started on the bridge over Bass River. They were working on the ramp over Station Avenue in Yarmouth this week. All this adds up to meeting at the usual lot in Dennis for this ride.

A weird aside, there was a bomb threat phoned in to the Orleans PD couple weeks back targeting the Chocolate Sparrow, was taken seriously enough that the place was evacuated and searched.

Looking forward to it!

For those who haven't ridden it before, here are some pics from last year's spring ride.

Top shows off one of his beauties.

At the start.

A nice bike collection.

And from the year before, a nice bakery stop.

Our destination, the Atlantic.

A cruel joke - 5 to 8" of new snow on April fool day. Hope it melts away soon. Reports say it's mostly rain out on the cape. I'm still in and hoping for the best. Still planning to camp in Shawmee Crowell forest so will pack the down bag and 'warm' tent. We have actual forecasts showing up on the 10 and 15 day predictions now. I'm watching closely.

I had a dandy ride this week on the Raleigh Pro. First of the year, now that the roads are clean. 40 miles with only two short stops for you know what, know what I mean, know what I mean?

Looking forward to seeing youse guys-n-gals.

The following weekend BF member @qcpmsame will be in New England so we intend to treat him to some great riding. Most likely we'll start in Bedford and go through the Minuteman area because we know those roads best. No details set yet except that it will be Saturday, um, April 22. Drop me a note if you are interested in joining us.

Wish you guys and ladies all the best on the St David's Day Ride (never heard of St. David's Day before.)

I am looking forward to meeting some of you New England people on the 22nd, please have the snow over and done with before then, if you would.

St. David is the national saint of Wales, comparable to St. Patrick (Ireland),St. Andrew (Scotland), and St. George (England). 1st of March, close enough to the end of winter to start planning the spring ride, which takes place on Patriot's Day weekend. Patriot's Day? A Massachusetts and Maine only holiday that commemorates the events of 18-19 April, 1775.

Wishing you a smooth trail with no snow banks, free from scattered down and dead tree limbs, no flats, and a tail wind out and back! I do wish I could join you, but I think you know what I'll be up to!

I also will be joining in once again, my new schedule leaves little time for riding lately, so I'm a bit out of shape. 10 AM departure?

Same time, same place.
I wouldn't mind seeing some new faces (no offense to the regulars).

I haven't ridden since November ... this will be painful.

Top ( or anyone), Please remind us about available water along the CCRT. IIRC there is a water fountain at Orleans. Right? Or somewhere else? I need to plan one bottle or two. Thanks.

This early in the season I don't know if the rest rooms at Nickerson SP will be open (it's gone either way in the past). We've also topped up bottles at the Chocolate Sparrow in Orleans if that water point isn't up yet.

Out running errands with the dog in Dennis this morning & finished off at the trailhead on rt 134 for his walk. The superstructure hasn't gone up yet to cross 134 & is currently taking up a good quarter of the parking spaces.
