Your middle sprocket appears to have slight wear but not enough for concern. The problem has to be with the chain...

Those newer lightweight freewheels tend to be a little more finicky.

ouch! Any other damage from the chanin flopping? hopefully no injury either. My nastiest bike incident was from a chain skipping. Still have the scars.

Chain was hungry. Keep your chain well-fed.

True, but what puzzles me is why he's using any sprocket larger than the 14T to begin with...

No. I was just riding along, and it skipped a little, then got worse and worse. Eventually, I had to walk the last two blocks home. It acted like the pawls had broken. Then I saw it! Got a new freewheel on tonight, and it's good again. I think.

Suntour sprockets are the only ones I have ever seen break. @jimmuller had one do this, but IIRC it was on his tandem and his lovely wife Sharon was really mashing as the stoker at the time.

I've broken many a Suntour sprocket (most often on a New Winner/Winner body) when trying to remove them for cleaning or re-gearing. However, it is usually only 2-3 teeth--- not 1/3-1/2 of the sprocket!

Pay attention to that man behind the curtain. He can fix it! At least, don't just toss the whole thing.

My sweetie puts all of her 5'2" into the pedals and this is what came of it. I may have helped a little too. The middle sprocket (of five) started clunking. Careful examination revealed two broken sprockets. How we broke two at once I'm not sure.

Jim forgets to mention that Sharon is tiny. I would have never guessed she is 5'2" and would guess there is a good chance she weighs less than 100lbs (but a gentleman never discusses a lady's weight, so ignore that last statement).

Did you notice @Ed. hovering in the background? Where has Ed. been lately?

The mean tandem that eats freewheel sprocket teeth is trying to hide underneath Jim.
