headlight?

Hello!

Does anyone know where I could get a headlight like this? Are there any companies that make repros? I've been searching on the internet with little luck. My Raleigh has the L shaped bracket with the Heron head on it to hold a headlight and something like this would look pretty cool!

I got mine when someone came up to me at a street fair and said, "I have a light that fits that" when I was on my Raleigh. Hooked up later and he gave it to me free!!

You probably will need to check Ebay and particularly Ebay in the UK where they are much more common. Mine is an "Elite" and runs 2 - D cells. I did put an LED bulb in it but it still pretty much is for looks or be seen .

For some reason, lamps of this kind on eBay often use the word "chopper" in the title.

I'm thinking so they can charge more - Like saying "Krate" instead of just Schwinn

For sure, since Chopper and Krate bikes are obsolete collector bikes with no practical use, and these lights are obsolete accessories with, likewise, no practical use. The light they emit is profoundly weak.

But more important, I think, these terms make the things relatively easy for the buyer to find.

I modified one of those with LED innards and ran it off of a dynohub on a Raleigh Lenton Grand Prix. It was reasonably bright for commuting purposes, but I wouldn't have wanted to rely on it.

Look for reproduction carbide lamps -- search for camping or mining type lamps, not bicycle, to get more hits. They don't even need to be working if you're handy and can modify them to use LEDs and rechargeable batteries.

Probably be an expensive mod, though. Even repro carbide lamps are expensive, lots of brass and glass.

You can probably even find a working carbide lamp, if you want to get really retro.
