OK, so which is faster: red or green?

Following an exchange of perceptions in another thread we really need an answer on this one, being the authority on C&V bike facts that we are : which are faster, red or green bikes?

I'm firmly in the green camp, with Monsieur Chrono backing me up:

Green is a cooler color, but red is faster. 😛

I think in the UK green is faster, but everywhere else it's red.

My several red bikes have been faster than the green bike. OK, maybe they just felt faster.

Yellow is fastest.

I ride a green bike, and I'm slow, therefore red is faster.

Green is faster only when you have a saddle. Which I don't.

It's a question that can easily be analyzed scientifically.

Red has an average wavelength of 650nm while green has an average wavelength of 510nm.

100 waves of red will take you significantly farther than 100 waves of green.

Ah, but which has the greater power in Daylight? (Ignore the blue, it's not about that)

none of my bikes is fast, because I am on them. But is is well established the Red Italian bikes are the fastest italian.

But I would take a faux Italian in either blue or red

Your color wheel must be really messed up.

Green + Red = ugly brown.

Red... red is always faster. I think it's psychological for the other riders. They see red in front of them and think "STOP" (like a red light.) Yet when green is in front of them they think "GO". So it's easier to win if you're riding a red bike therefore it is "faster" (than the other bikes.)

Suffering as I am from colour blindness, I actually could do a scientific blind test on this.

Green wins for sure. Green means go, and red means stop.

Besides, I have a green bike, but I don't have a red bike, therefore green is better.

BTW, in additive color mixing, green plus red does equal yellow.
green light + red light = yellow light

I am not an artist, but I do know that with paint, mixing green and red gets brown... I didn't realize there were other ways to add colors.

I own two red bikes and no green bikes so....

In certain parts of the country, a guy riding a pink bike is still not socially acceptable. 😳 But I've seen a few bikes I'd love to have, if they weren't pink.

Lots of ways to calculate colours depending on the media. Your computer signal is digital RGB. Early TV engineers figured out how analog colour signals could be generated using just red, blue and luminance (black and white) by experimenting with humans ability to perceive colour. Fascinating, maybe?

Green!

This is a trick question. The answer is orange. The second fastest color is pink. This is common knowledge.

+1, Pink colourway, its for the cyclist assured enough in their manhood to ride pink. You pretty much have to be fast to ride Pink.

Barring anyone accepting the pink argument, its Green bikes as fastest, especially Emerald Green Metallic.

I support this answer, and I LOVE pink bikes. I'm fastest on a tandem with a stronger rider on the back

(Titanium/grey is fastest since there's no additional paint weight)
