I still go out, all Racer Boy, at 53, every time. I don't think I can go any other way.

Wow, touched on everything that I feel when I am out riding myself. He put into words exactly how it feels to me when riding my C&V bikes. He makes me really wish that one special bicycle I had was still mine, sigh...... I can understand why he has so many advertising video accounts to his credit, wonder who the rider is though?

Great bit if video there, appreciate your sharing it with us muchlys

Nice! I sold my racing bike, the Fuji Pro I loved and was my soulmate for the longest and hardest and fastest rides of my life. But it was just a race bike. I had an all-'rounder built to serve me for tha t next phase of my post-accident journey. That bike saw a lot. Eventually got pushed back to the last bike of a greowing fleet as all the newer bikes did what they did better.

That all-'rounder has just found a niche it can go better than any bike I have ever owned, been re-outfitted for that niche and I am back in love! The 1970 Peter Mooney. With its 531 tubing, enormous tire clearances, high bottom bracket, cantilever brakes, long chainstays, horizontal dropouts and set up fix gear it is a born and bred circa 1910 road racer. (Well not really. A lot of key aspects hadn't been invented yet. 531. Cantilever brakes. Etc. But if they had been around, they would have been used.) The bike is a total blast to ride!

Yesterday I went for an easy R & R ride. 35 miles. 44-18. The bike was wonderful. Sprints and pursuits Monday in traffic. Last week it was a 50 mile out and back with a steep hill I thought I was too old to do fixed followed by speed work through cold rain drops in very warm air to stay ahead of the lightening.

Yes, this bike weighs in the low 20s as a fix gear. But it rides with a smoothness and grace that I have never found in a lighter bike.

Edit: Masi: I have a soft spot for a Masi I never rode, my riding partner's Masi the summer of 1977: the pre-accident summer when I was so strong. I rode probably 1000 miles with her and that Masi; red, Italian built, probably 1974 but I never actually knew. Just a classic working road bike. A friend just like the woman on it.

Ben

Original poster... I'm in sync with everything the interviewed bicyclist says, except for the emotional connection comment. I only had my first big boy 10 speed bicycle a few months before it was stolen... I was devastated. When I came out to the bike rack and saw a small chunk of bike cable still laying on the pavement, I was sick to my stomach over the realization of what had happened. I guess I had wanted to be the type of guy who road his 10 speed bike all over the place, maybe like Dave in the movie Breaking Away (an obvious Masi connection, huh), that having a nice bike was something that metaphorically meant I had achieve this goal I had always wanted to achieve. With melancholy I suppose, I still search CL, hoping to find a doppelganger of it, but no luck so far.

There are plenty of marques which are gone, only a shadow of their one-time greatness. Unlike other companies who own these brands, Haro seems to be treating the Masi name with a great deal of respect.

BTW, John Gallagher, the subject of the video, is quite active over on the Classic Rendezvous list.

IMO, you should let us know what you are looking for and what era/year and equipment. That way, you've got a lot more eyes and feet in your army. Lots and lots of bikes in shops and homes that will not be on CL but someone may have knowledge of it.

That is what community is for. good luck with your search.

The bicycle in question was a Puch Classic or Classic 2, 23" frame, black with gold logo's, chromoly frame. The deal is, it wasn't all that special a bike, even in the early 80's, when it was made. But, it was my first...

Hmm, you mean like this one in STL, not super far away from you? No affiliation.

Yes - it is nice to see the modern Masi treat the "authentic" Masi's as the genuine article. My first rides on my black Gran Criterium in 1979 programmed my bike DNA for life. The frame was (& still is) beautiful- I always respected it. The black & gold Bullseye/Mavic OR10 tubie wheels had fat Continental ribbed tread Sonderclasse' tires attached to the bike with Zeus titanium skewers. VERY special times!

Yes, if memory serves... very much like this one. I should drop by my old bike shop and see if they have the exact model designation. I know they kept a hand written ledger of the models and serial numbers... they might even be able to tell me if it was a "Classic", "Classic 10", or "Classic 12".
