Holy Moly I had no idea !! The frame builder ?? !!!! ??? I got my first racing 10 speed in 1981 at the age of 11, a hand me down from my uncle. I can remember hearing that name as a youngster. I was around a lot of serious riders. My uncle Mark Trione missed the olympic team by one spot in 1980, which we boycotted anyways. I will defo be paying attention to anything he says !!!

Thank you !!

Hello sir !!!!

Thank you for your input. I did not know who you were initially. I have an uncle who missed the olympics twice 1976 and 1980. In 1980 it was by one spot. He rode a 1976 Masi GC which he bought new. We boycotted it anyways So i was blessed to be around a few serious riders and over the years i have heard your name mentioned ( being a frame builder ). Once again thank you sir !!!!

Kindest Regards

Stupid question SORRY
Can anyone post a pic showing the proper washer/spacer set up for my brakes front and rear ? They are nouvo record brakes i assume. I have read you cant really tell between NR/SR brakes except the SR has some titanium pieces that are just steel on the NR set ?? I have looked and i can find pics from one side but not both sides. I didn't pay close enough attention to the placement of the spacers etc.

Thanks in advance
Jude A

Its amazing the people that are active in the C&V Forum, folks like e-Richie/Mr. Sachs (completely out of respect for him, I was raised this way,) that participate with us and will offer up advice on small details, or teach us things we should know if we want to learn about the history of cycling. Well worth the price of admission.

Well said Jude, and thanks for hanging out here @e-RICHIE.

You should have Record brakes. The only difference between Super Record and Record brakes (until 1984) were the brake levers.

Here is an exploded diagram of Record brakes showing the order of placement of the washers.
You may need to vary this some depending on the shape of your fork crown, etc.

This is what i have come up with researching the bike. I have been using velobase, classic rendezvous, etc to look for dates and distinguishing features to catalog the bike. If the color is red that means i have yet to get the part. So far i have had the bb and headset checked and regreased.
The only parts i have bought so far are the front wheel, down tube shifters, cable clamps (top tube).
I would be most appreciative of any comments, suggestions etc.
i would also like to thank ALL who have taken time out to share with me and help in this project. speaks volumes for the type of people in this groupo

Thank You
Jude A.

Well said Jude, and thanks for hanging out here @e-RICHIE.
i received the bar tape today ! Thanks a million. Its going to look stellar on the bike. Thanks once again !!

Kindest Reagrds

Jude A.

i also talked to my uncle today Mark Trione. He says his bike is indeed a 1975 like mine, he was going to check the serial number and get back to me. He said this as well

"I purchased mine in 75 i’m quite sure a junior in high school. I won the senior State TT that next year, I beat my hero Jim Johnson by 2 secs. Over 40 Km 1:00 that’s 25 miles per hour in drop bars no TT equipment. Jim had placed 10th in the nation the year before in the junior nationals."

he also went on to say that

"Mind you the junior Champion Andrew Weaver from dade Fl. Was riding 57 min. In drops, incredible!!"

Wasnt sure if that name would ring a bell with you or not being from florida. I was actually born in Pompano Beach, Fl

Mark is truly a cool cat. lol he lives in Canada BC now a days.
anywho....
thanks again for the tape !!!
Kindest Regards

Jude A

Glad that the bar tape arrived safe and sound. I'm certain that the few Masi I was fortunate to encounter back in the mid-late 70s had yellow cloth tape wrapping the bars. But, there were few high end bikes in NW Florida during that time frame. Our club had a Raleigh Pro, my International, a Raleigh Competition and two Paramounts. A Marine 2LT flight student showed up in early 1980 to join us, with a Peugeot PX-10, not sure of its complete model designation though.

A few nice bikes would pass through with other flight students or instructors but they weren't racing them. The club finally told us that no racing would be promoted or licensed by them, I resigned as road captain and just rode solo.

Those names ring a faint bell from deep in the past, might have read their results in the regional magazines we got our grubby paws on. It would be nice to meet your uncle, we must be lose in age. I imagine he has some great stories to tell. ?

Have a great time with your restoration, be sure to post plenty of pictures.

If you want most everything correct, there is a smaller '74 GC on ebay with a buy it now in the stratosphere… but it has all, Clement Del Mundos (an option, Clement Criterium 350's were typical), correct riveted Alfredo Binda toe straps, original wheels… Just a touch over $6,200

Until you can get to applying the clear coat to the chrome put a good automotive wax on to provide some protection.

Good to see that you opted for the stainless coiled housing for the RD cable. That surely would've been OEM on a complete bike.

This is going to be one pretty bike when you're done. Good to hear you'll be riding the...whatever...out of it

The chrome on most Carlsbad Masi forks was clear coated, it did not last, and often was removed. Working a plastic paint putty knife does well. On the twin plate crowns it was hit and miss, I've seen both.

I agree completely, with all of this reply! When he sent the Medici frame set here, DD was kind enough to include one of the stainless steel coiled Campagnolo housings, and the correct stepped ferrule for the Divers' Helmet stop, on the DS chain stay. That was one of the first things I got when I began the Tommasini last February. They just are one of the little drains that tell me someone was watching all of the little things when they were building up their ride. Besides, they just look cool

When this gets finished we definitely have to hook up for some riding. That is, if my shabby bikes won't ruin the aura around that beautiful bike you will have

Bill

Very nice build and interesting frame!

But if you are going to ride it a lot I would opt for Suntour, Maillard or Shimano freewheel. Yeah, not as cool as Regina or Everest but once you try to take them off or apart you will understand. Or you make two wheel-sets. One period correct museum version and one slightly more modern but still correct in style. On the "every day use" you can have clincher rims.

And don't go cheap on tires. Check out FMB, Dugast or Challenge. My choice would have been Challenge Paris-Roubaix or Challenge Strada Bianca.
Paris-Roubaix SC S
Strada Bianca PRO
Gum wall is a must on a bike like this

There are also Compass / Grand Bois in 32, 28 or 26 mm:
https://www.compasscycle.com/shop/co...stampede-pass/

Or the practical but slower Panaracer Pasela.
https://www.panaracer.com/lineup/urban_touring.html

Where did you get the grey cable housing?

For straps you almost have no other choice than Alfredo Binda. Try to find the old style in blue with white text. Example
https://www.ebay.com/itm/132174437676
https://www.ebay.com/itm/192182014388

A note. The Christophe toe clips has the "modern" logo, but you probably know that.

If you google for the old Campagnolo catalogs you will find exploded views of all components.
