Worth keeping.
Odds are you would not buy another.

Chrome fork crown has failing clearcoat. I had the same, eased it off with a credit card edge.
You will be obliged to keep after the chrome but worth it.

thank you. i had been contemplating selling, even listed it on ebay for a few days and while everyone was watching (no bids yet) i decided to keep it. sentimental to me. i come from a big american-italian family, one uncle three years older and a second uncle 10 years my senior, bought a 76 his serial number is 0715 (been re-painted) was same color blue and yellow, missed the olympic trials by one spot. he was always top of the state of alabama in mid 70's. Mark Trione. i found this bike a 75' serial 930. when i was a young whipper-snapper i had a yellow Atalla. #JubileeRoadTeam i also committed to restoration of the bike and my health. out with the cancer/death sticks. in with fresh air and health !!!!!!

42 years old is nothing for a bicycle. My newest road bike is now 36, and the oldest is 58.

Bar Tape :)

i have been trying to find out a brand of bar tape that would have been "period correct" for the bike ? I have been listening to Bob Roll LoL. SO i am looking at using Newbaums. i think the yellow would be a fantastic color for it. Would there have been yellow available?
Latest on bike are the brake cable holders and shift levers. waiting on a front 32h martano with a campy record hub

Yeah, sure yellow was around. It will look like hell after one ride, but dirty tape makes you look cool. If I were picking I'd probably go for white or black or light blue. Dirty white tape makes you ride like Eddy. https://store.velo-orange.com/index.p...ebar-tape.html

Velox Tressostar was pretty much the only cloth tape available for a long time. Actually I think there used to be more colors available in vintage days than there are now. At some point Cat Eye tape was around too, perhaps about 1980? Newbaums is close enough, at least as good (better IMO) in quality, and comes in more colors.

I have yellow Newbaums on mine. Sure it looks dirty quickly but when it gets too bad I just replace it... it's cheap. Or you could look for some original Ambrosio Bike Ribbon; it's probably a little less period correct but it's close, and it's washable.

I was thinking the same about bar tape - white would look great. I love the look of dirty white tape, but I guess it's not for everyone.
Another nice thing about Newbaum's is the rolls are longer.
Beautiful bike and more importantly cheers to your improving health.

Aren't you over in Baldwin County, IIRC? I purchased a box of Tressostar yellow cloth tape, let me know if you want to use a couple of rolls for your Masi. It would be my pleasure to help you out with this rebirth of an iconic bicycle. I am using Newbaums green on the Medici and pink 2Velo on my Tommasini, so the yellow is sitting on my work bench's shelf in its box. If you want two rolls send me a PM and we can work out meeting up somewhere, they are yours.

These are the wider rolls, and it holds up really well, as said it will gather smudges and hand prints over time. I have been able to use some Dawn dish detergent and a soft cotton cloth soaked in warm water to clean up all three brands of cloth tape that I am using. If you go with white cloth, you can easily clean it up with a Clorox bleach pen, just be sure you wipe/rinse things after you clean the tape, bleach can rot away the fibers quickly of its left on the cloth.

I believe on that color Masi yellow tape would have been "factory" correct. I want to say Benotto or some other cello tape like this but I am not sure cello tape was used. It might have been cloth.

When I look at the photo in the 1975 catalog, it looks like cloth tape.

Carlsbad era, Yellow cloth was the primary ticket.
Bikes with blue lug fill might get Blue or White.

Hunt-Wilde white bar plugs. (seems to be a component not shipped over from Italy with the initial parts stock)

Due to customer fitting, lever placement preferences and such, often when a client rode out the door, Cinelli bar plugs were employed

Benotto Cello tape screams early 80s. IMO it would look wrong on a 1975 Masi if you were going for the period correct original look.

No doubt many mid 70s Masi's did get the cello tape treatment when it became cool in the 80s.

+1 right around 79/80 is when I remember it. At least that's when I and my riding buddies all started using it.

You'd better correct the brakes as showing in that last attachment in Post 14.
The pads/holders are in backwards.
