Chain stay brakes and kickstands

Hey all...

I want to put a kickstand on a bike I just picked up that happens to have chain stay mounted brakes. I thought I would reach out to see what options you all have used.

I'm using the Greenleaf rear kickstand on my tandem, but I figured there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I toyed with the idea of going without a kickstand, I figured the bike is 20 years old and has done without one this long...I hate it. Different strokes for different folks, eh?

Thanks in advance for your product suggestions.

You could mount the kickstand normally and put a side pull brake on the bridge. If it has a bridge.

I don't want to make you feel old but the chain stay brakes were 30 years ago not 20

Something like this stay mounted Greenfield might work
Greenfield Bike Rear Mount Kickstand - 305 Mm - JCPenney

I've seen kick stands that mount on the non-drive side drop out as opposed to behind the bottom bracket. That may serve you.

These are great kickstands, and I did not know that JCP was still in business.

Pletcher is another manufacturer, of KS, etc. they're A Swiss Company.

I got their 'zoom' kickstand variation, there are 2 sections that bolt together, (small bolts)
I have already taken advantage of the ability to make it a little longer,

something you cannot do with a sawn to length installation. done with a hacksaw..

It is a good kickstand, that is the one I have on my tandem.

Check out Montgomeryward.com. Somebody bought ALL the intellectual stuff after they folded. Same name, same look, completely different. Crazy, eh?

Here is something a little different - Products and Ordering
Someone posted it in a different thread the other day. Thought it was pretty neat...bit expensive though.

I put a standard Greenfield kickstand on a Peugeot MTB with a chain stay brake. All I had to do is shorten the stand mounting bolt so it didn't interfere with the brake cable.

I have one of these on a Ross bike, also due to the chainstay mounted brakes. I found it at Dick's for about $20. I think the Greeenfield stand looks nicer, but it works.

yeah might be where I got it. used to work right next to one of those stores so I was always in there. I agree about the looks. honestly don't know what was up with the spring thing. sold the bike last yr so I can't investigate

Thanks all!

I am tempted by the stick looking temporary stand...but I'll probably just go with the Greenfield rear mount.
