Vintage unknown bike

So i was checking out my local craigslist and happen to find this old bike, but the I have no clue if its a good deal or not. Heres a picture of it! I cant tell the brand and am partly worried if I ask the seller and he finds out its worth a lot he wouldn't sell it. 01313_1nTzfnK8uzh_600x450.jpg Hes selling it for 50 dollars i am planing to meet him tonight to buy it, if its a good deal that is.

50 is probably on the high side. it would depend on condition and with the front brake busted/unadjusted and the seat post backwards- I suspect its not in the best shape.

Looks like one of the bike boom offerings from the 70's - like what was sold at Western Auto or Sears or such. If it all works and you want a commuter that isn't likely to get stolen, it might be worth getting.

That said, the shifters and the dork-disc are not ones you come across every day.

and on the con side... no rear brake.

I want a bike like that to use as an outdoor christmas display. Throw on a bunch of lights and you have a fine seasonal display; that shade of green would work sell.

Is he paying you $50 to take it off of his hands? If not, pass.

Does that fork look a bit tweaked to anyone else?

The wingnuts are the best thing about it. Pass, unless he'd give you the wingnuts.

In person, you'd want to make darn well sure the upper part of the fork blades were exactly in line with the head tub. If they are angled back, it's a sign that the bike has had a front-end collision. Then offer ten for the cool wheels with wing nuts and weirdo shifter

You don't see those stem shifters too often. They are quite rare. Unfortunately, they are mainly a conversation piece. Those also look like the Shimano aluminum wing nuts and a Shimano spoke protector. While it needs some work, it appears remarkably free of rust. Still, it is only an entry level model, circa 1971-1973.

So your plan is to get rid of the only interesting bit of the bike?

It doesn't need a fixed gear conversion. It needs a new fork.

Those wing nuts look like the Sugino offering. Anyway, sell the bits you took off and make a little back if all you want is a fixed gear.

It's a cool frame, and it'll definitely make a cool fixie or SS imo, OP. I say go for it, and make it into something you'll ride.

Since you bought it, what is the serial number? It may allow us to identify the manufacturer.

Seem to recall seeing these also sold as Tease brand. Most common finish was yellow with green transfers.

The condition of the front brake wouldn't be so worrying if the rear brake were present

Exactly what I was thinking!

The one cool part about the bike and you're getting rid of it.

The fork is bent and the seatpost is so high that I'd worry about leverage damage.
