If the valve cores are removable, maybe you can use modern sealant instead.

Wolber Liberty? I forgot about those. I used them briefly when they were the new thing. The tube is vulcanized to the casing and you can't patch them. They had this little needle injector repair kit. You were supposed to stick this needle into the cut tire and squeeze some goop from a little tube inside, which theoretically cured and plugged the cut. Sometimes it would even work, for a ride or two. More likely you were lucky if it held 10 miles, if it worked at all.

Move the Wobler to a spare. They ride meh at best. I would look for a pair of high quality tires, in the 25-27 mm range.

I'd be scared to ride any cotton tire that old frankly.
As long as we're on the subject, RE tubulars in the 25-27mm range, got any recommendations? My Masi needs tires too. I prefer something not too $$$ but not cheap and crooked either.

Yeah, "meh" is not a bad description. They were just cheap training tires. The Wolber "Invulnerable" from around the same time was a better training tire.

I've never had a Martano Tipo rim, is the braking surface intentionally grooved that deeply???
edit: quick search = I guess the term is 'fluted'.
Here's some brief info.

Depending on what you call $$$, Probikekit has Vlaanderen for about $66/tire and Roubaix for about $123/pair. Free delivery for orders over $79. Or there is a guy on the Serotta forum who has some new Vlaanderen he will sell for $135 shipped for the pair. He ships fast...I bought some used tires from him.

Funny but BITD I would just buy whatever training tubulars were cheapest that month for general riding. With an LBS employee discount, I think I averaged about $10/ea, but that was more than half my age then...

Thanks. I didn't know about those. Those look just right, and the price is ballpark. The other tire I was looked at were Continentals, but those are hard to find these days with the funky brown not quite gum sidewalls.

Okay...I am confused. I get you don't want to ride a cheap tire. But are you saying you wouldn't ride Veloflex Roubaix or Vlaanderen? You might reconsider if that is the case. List on those are in Bobke country and sometimes you can find them at the prices I provided. But if you insist on spending over $100 per tire, I highly recommend FMB. I have both FMB and Veloflex on bikes. I rate the FMB ahead of Veloflex, but neither will disappoint.
