1976 Mercier Amateur

Stolen out of my garage last night.
Haven't a clue what to tell insurance it's worth. Any suggestions?
The attached pic is not my bike but it is the bike.
I bought it new at Bloor Cycle in Toronto, and paid more for it than the engagement ring I bought the next year.

Sucks! Great luck on the recovery.

Insurance wise... how much you paid for it or cost of replacement. I don't how, up to you or the insurance co.

One approach is to list the parts on the bike. I did that many years ago with my old Atala and actually received enough $ to replace it without going too deeply into my savings. If, for example, you rebuilt the wheels, as I did, that can add mightily to the value. Or do Canadian insurance companies not act as their customers are their enemies?

I am very sorry for your loss. It's a real violation of one's sense of safety.

Sorry for your loss. Those are really nice-riding bikes.

Actually, the bike in the pic is mine, and I can tell you what it cost me three years ago: $100 for the bike, plus at least another $100 for the tires, saddle and consumables. If I were to sell it, it might make $150. On a good day. With all the stars aligned.

Agree on first line.

Disagree on the second -- I never place relatively small insurance claims, because too often these become an excuse for the company to raise one's premiums. I carry large deductibles and keep my insurance powder dry for a really big disaster.

+1, and also deduct for depreciation if no full replacement on policy....in the end you may pay for much more than if you replaced the bike yourself.
Agree that it sucks.

Thanks to all of you.
The thieves also took my Masi 3CV Team Issue road bike and State Black Label track bike (I live near the Milton Velodrome). I've gone a whole week without being able to ride and I'm going crazy. Pretty sure I'm going to pull the trigger on my insurance to try and recover some. I've been with the same company for almost 40 years without a claim.
