Happy 4th of July

HAPPY 4th to All,
We are prepping a BBQ for the beach this afternoon...ribs, corn, salad and of course some refreshments.
Planning on doing a little surfing, my daughter will waterboard etc.
What are other BF members prepping or doing on this important day?
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

Best, Ben

Happy Fourth back to you Xiaoman, nothing big here, we had our big day Sunday, it was our 41st wedding anniversary. I mowed the yard this morning while the wife went to Jazzercize. Going riding this afternoon, its over 90*F here already, with a heat index of 105*F so I am not trying to win today's stage of the Tour de' Lower Alabama. Cooking on the grill this eveving, corn and veggies for me, and some grilled chicken for Monica.

Y'all have fun, be safe while you're at it.

Bill

Of course you guys know the Declaration of Indeprncence was not fully signed till September...

Walk to the beach to view the city fireworks display tonight.
Some folk are already staking out their spots.

Happy 4th!

I'm going to take my 5yr old son out in a couple hours. We will grab some dinner and go to the park across from Dolphin beach and play until the fireworks begin. Hopefully it cools down a bit. I think its somewhere around 90 right now.

86 mile ride this morning with a few friends. Then drove the family to the beach and a stop at the pie shop. Grilling and maybe walk to the fireworks after dark. Next order of business is happy hour.

Today I shined up a red, white and blue Free Spirit 24" three wheeler and parked it in the staging area of the community parade. With the 'cycle I left two small American flags and a cardboard sign suggesting someone should ride it in the parade and take it home if they liked it. Someone did. It was cool to see it pass by in the parade and out of my life (and my garage).

Out little community parade begins with the bikes. This year there were hundreds- more than any year before, going by my memory. Happy 4th to my countrymen and a joyful day to everyone, everywhere.

Here's what I saw on this morning's ride. Seems particularly appropriate for today's holiday (for those of you in the US):

Took out the free spirit bike out for a spin after work today. Alloy wheels and modern crank and this bike rides great! Headin to watch fireworks at a local ballpark. Cheers. Kevin.

Watched our local parade (2 hours!), then got on the bike for a quick little 44 miles round trip to Issaquah. Since I was doing some gravel I took the Medici and because, you know, 'Merica

Saw an eagle feeding her babies at the Jerry Baker Velodrome (there's a purpose-built aerie at the northeast corner of the track) and got in some gravel on the not-yet-paved portion of the East Lake Sammamish trail.

I even biffed it today. The front end washed out in some deep gravel at about 20mph close to the end of the gravel section. Went shoulder-first into a chain link fence. Bike never hit the ground, but when the handlebar whipped to the right the left brake lever caught my left hand and gave me a couple/three gouges. No biggie - lucky I wasn't wearing one of my watches today, tho.

Now I'm home, fresh out of the shower and ready for a nap before the fireworks show. Hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th!

Mr. VV had yesterday and today off so I took yesterday off also, making a nice 4 day "staycation". He enjoys grocery shopping, and does so on his dedicated "shopping bike"; his college bike - a 1984 or '85 Nishiki Pueblo! Anyway, he went grocery shopping and for dinner he's grilling some meat and vegetables. We'll eat outside in our back yard and enjoy the scenery.

There may be some fireworks ......

Important thing is that the Medici is alright Like CBBill said, glad you are not all messed up. I have the corner on the road rash concession here. Be careful out on that loose rocks and stuff.

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys. Could've been a lot worse. You know how it is when you know it's gonna happen, and you just have enough time to wonder how bad it's gonna be. Lucky that fence was there, I tell ya!

And, yeah Bill - the bike is fine; my shoulder took it on the chin, as it were. Oh, and today's ride was the test-run with the NR pedals. My feet thank you; no issues with foot pain whatsoever

We got our new family addition on Wednesday -- a not-so-little 8lb 7oz baby brother for our grandson. With our son's wife resting and recovering (family tradition -- big boy babies with big heads, mostly C-section deliveries), my wife and I participated in their housing tract's annual 4th of July parade with the next two generations of elder sons.

This afternoon I participated in the annual Neptune Av. parade, this time with the correct set of wheels for the occasion -- the red-white-and-blue made-in-USA Schwinn mountain bike.

Congratulations to all of the new parents....I have a 22-year-old daughter, My advice is to enjoy them while you can, it is true that they grow up faster than we think and before we know it they are off on their own....cherish the time that you have with them.
Regards, Ben

Got in a nice ride in the morning on my 86 Passage, my longest in a while and with hills even - I've been avoiding them till today. In the evening I was a therapy Human to my 11 year-old lab who is really distraught by fireworks. Shep is my therapy dog the other 364 days a year so its the least I could do
