It was posted a little while ago. Quite the story. A new way to pronounce Raleigh- "Rally"

It can always use another intro to the Forum.

I learned that what we call lugs were called brackets, which makes sense. So the lowest one was the bottom bracket.

Nice to see some new footage of the TI Raleigh team of the seventies. I started listening to the daily TdF radio coverage in '78 and those guys really dominated the TdF in those years, climaxing with Joop Zoetemelk's win in 1980.

"RAH-lee." Like most folks would pronounce Raleigh, NC, or in reference to historical guy Sir Walter Raleigh.

I missed it somehow. Great documentary! And as someone already mentioned - bottom bracket now makes sense :-)

Sir Walter Raleigh is also supposed to be pronounced "Rally". Being that it's the same name, so is the town.

This is the problem with Americanese, you simplified all the spellings for the common words, and so you end up mispronouncing the uncommon ones!

At least it's not as bad as what some americans say. I heard one say "ray-lay" in real life once, nearly had a stroke from the shock of it.

I still think it's a gray area. Grew up with Brits of all dialects in Toronto and pronunciations vary wildly. The Queens English aside.

This is how I have always pronounced it. Of all the bicycle brand names that I am not sure about, I never would have guessed that I was pronouncing Raleigh wrong.

Of course, I should have qualified my statement as "...most American folks..."

As an Anglophone and an Anglophile, and someone who dearly loves all the BBC dramas that come across the pond, I apologize. (OT, Grantchester really is taking a dark turn this season. Things are really going to hell there.)

I can't help but feel you hold the BBC in higher esteem than most English people. The majority of their output is tat

I wish there was the same type of video history recap for Peugeot, Motobecane, Favorit, RHM, and a host of others.
