Tubing question

This is an early '80s Tommasini with Columbus tubing of some sort, but it's unlabeled. I'm wondering whether there's any way to determine the tubing type. Also, am I correct in believing the seatpost is Chorus? It's campy of some sort, and takes on a kind of aero profile above the round part where it fits into the seat tube.

If you are wondering if it is Columbus SLX, you can look in the bottom bracket shell, at the ends of the seat and down tubes. If there are faint ribs/"rifling" on the tube walls, then it is SLX. If none, the it could be SL or SP.
Not familiar with later tubing types than SLX, I suspect most of them were OS (oversized ) type tubing.
As for the seatpost, unfortunately, 1st gen Chorus and C Record seatposts looks very similar. Somebody that had owned and handled both enough will be the best to give us the subtle differences between the two.
BTW, tip,..... try to always post a pic of the drive train (right) side of your bike, as it gives out most information to viewers of your pics.

Hm, looks like it must be SL tubing then. Here's another pic of the seatpost (and the drive side). Thanks for the info.

My 1st gen Chorus seatpost does not have the rings and "Brev" markings like yours on the shaft.
It could be C Record then, to match your crankset.

Loooks like you have a tubing decal on your seat tube. Please show a close photo of it.

It does, and if its legible he is golden. I think its a Prestige with SL, its all over the place with its components and finishing kit. Fork looks to be early Prestige, not chromed or the AiR model. Front wheel is not the usual either. The seat post is likely a Chorus, 1st gen. aero, the single bolt seat rail control is recessed/faired, if he will measure it it should be 160mm, if it is Chorus Aero.

Looks nice as far as its colourway, but need some clearer pics.

Bill

I think 1992 was the first (maybe only) year that the Chorus seat post had the 'BREV' marking.

The bike appears to have an SL decal, and portacantena dropout.

It's a mish-mash of parts, looks like maybe a Phil front hub.

The sticker just says Columbus unfortunately. The hubs are Phil as suspected. Thank you for the input. (I ended up selling the bike so I can't measure the seat post.)

I'm pretty sure that is a Columbus SL sticker with a blue border. BTW, the rifling that denotes SLX is on the inside of the tubes at the bottom bracket, so you have to take the BB off, but I think yours is probably an SL Prestige. The crank is C Record but the post is not as the C Record aero post has a continuous curve at the top. Probably a Chorus or Athena post.

That's a cool bike!
