Zebra Bicycle Corp... anyone heard of them?

Hey all-

I'm currently riding around on what appears to be a 70's/80's bike called a Zebra Tempest. I've had it mistaken for a Bianchi before (must be that mint green color) but I can tell you it certainly doesn't ride like one. It's got Suntour parts all around and I can't find anything even similar on Google or eBay/Craigslist. Has anyone heard of this brand? If so, where could I go to find out more information?

Thanks
brendan

I posted a few days ago on the same subject, do a search. Someone, I believe it was OldsCool, posted a nice answer. I have a Zebra Comet that's fairly nice for its age.

I have specs for a 1985 Zebra Tempest - hi-tensile steel frameset, SunTour AR derailleurs, Sugino crankset, Dia-Compe 500 brakes, Araya 18 rims. $219.00 US. Third from bottom of the line.

References to Zebra started appearing in the magazines about the same time that Zebrakenko disappeared, so I wondered if it just a shortening of the name. However, the distributors were different, so it just may be coincidence.

Thanx for the mention but I think it was T-Mar that gave excellent lesson on how frame tubes are constructed/butted. Great post!

Whoops! You're right. Thanks again to T-Mar for that post, also. I did read it, though I may have neglected to respond, simply because I was processing all of that good info! Sorry to overlook you, T-Mar, and thanks again.

The collective resources we have here is staggering in regard to vintage lightweight bikes!

I have a bike similar to t-mar's
pleasant 27 inch 26 lb chrome moly butted frame with a 2x6 gear train
~ca 1986
These things don't wear out with modest care
and are fun to ride and high light the difference to new bikes, which is real but for most riders not as profound as one might think
my 20 lb 2007 TREK would make an 18 lb cervelo have to work to prove its value
It's there, but for many the value is in the rider

The sample Zebra I had back in '87 was mint green. Forget which model it was. Nice little generic Taiwan-made bike.

Hi, I've seen a couple of places that you know about Zebra bikes. I think this is an '86, do you happen to know the model name? Thanks, John
