New bike day! (well- frameset)
I haven't gone on a binge or anything --- most of the bikes I have shown in recent posts were at my LBS and had been for a while --- since I have been travelling with work , I just picked them up all at the same time and have been trying to give them shakedown cruises ---
This one also, has been in the works for almost a year ---- I gave the framebuilder a deposit to get started on it in February , he had it ready by July , but the painter was back-logged--- but it just arrived
I realize this is a new frame, - but I am a diehard C&V'er at heart, - so I usually just stay within this part of the forums -- , and this bike (a track bike) - was built with an eye towards what some of the new school steel builders are doing (Vanilla, Wraith, etc. ) , but somewhat of a homage to tradition with the nice graphics details
------ besides, the geometry is straight up C&V , -- its right out of the 1981 Paramount track frame catalog specs -
Traditional track geometry, but I wanted it to be able to run with a modern carbon bike, so the downtube and stays are from a tubing set typically used for 29'er MTB's --- The tapered MTB style headtube is also an item that hasn't trickled over to the track world yet, but it should make for a rock solid, unyielding front end
The bike isn't C&V, but just look at some of those pics on the wall of the shop back there ----- I should get permission to photograph this place -- LOL
A little gold leaf inlay work on the fork
The colors look at a lot better in the sun than they do in the fluorescent light of the shop
Lastly , it had to match the car -
Actually, when we un-boxed it, myself and my framebuilder DeWayne were a tad non-plussed as I had asked for bass boat type metalflake, and he asked if I wanted to send it back ---- after I looked at it against the car, we both mutually decided that all was well
Now we have to scrounge up the parts to build this thing
In keeping with the new vs old vibe , I have a Campy Record pista crankset slated for it, (which is still a tapered bottom bracket) --- and would love to build a set of spoked wheels around the sheriff star hubs if I can find them

Cool bike. C+V'er's in good standing get allowance for the occasional non-vintage diversion. Enjoy!

Lately I have come to appreciate modern steel frames without lugs or fillet. Tig is OK and this frame is sweet. Be happy you don't have a bassboat paint job. Nice match to the car! Really like the top tube/seat tube junction. Adds a nice custom touch. Well done. Now go ride the piss out of it!

Thanks all ! --- I like the comparison to the vintage guitar, I will pass that info to the painter in case he is looking for more ways to be creative someday!
@TiHabanero --- riding the pee out of it I think is the only way a track bike gets ridden nowadays --- all the darn modern wood tracks seem to require about 17mph just to stay up -- quite the incentive to get in better shape!

Boy, if I had a nickel for every time I had to match my custom-made bike frame to the color of my Corvette...

- I know --- Its so dumb --- stuff like this is why the terrorists hate us so much I laugh at myself,
-- after we unboxed this thing and I made peace with the fact that it didn't have super coarse metal flake , I had to run home and get the Sunday driver so I could make sure the paint shade was close enough (Chevrolet Atomic Orange ) -- the guys' at my shop are more into VW micro buses and the like so I am sure they just roll their eyes

A nice set of chrome wheels like the Vette and you're all set. Love the color too.

I think that paint job is beautiful. I have never simultaneously had a bike and car with matching colors, but if I had a frame in need of painting when I had the car repainted at MAACO, I definitely would have asked if they were willing to do both.

Nice frame and match! I also like Sheriff stars but my vote would be Odom large flange with some cool cutouts. Met a guy that came down from Portland when I did my 6 week class in SD. He runs them and man is he fast (sponsored and wins most races he enters). Not saying because of the hubs, but they sure don't deter him, and they look great.

I imagine the price is in the "If you have to ask......." category, but would look like they would add some serious shine to any build

He is also on Framebuilders or maybe Steel is Real and posts. VeloCult in Portland has them on display. I also do some travel for work @DMC707 so I seek out cool stuff or things to do when not at the computer. Gugie turned me on to VeloCult when I asked for a good shop in the area and it's worth checking out if you ever get up that way.

Looks like a beautiful frameset, the build is interesting also. Should make for an interesting build thread, if you choose to post as you go.

Amazing. The pinstriping is so good. And I like the tapered head tube. It will look really good with the fork.
I would run Phil track hubs for the wheels. But I'm biased because I run Phil track hubs on my fixed gear.

Not Curtis Odom hubs, but similar if you crave high flange on a budget for a modern build.

Is your Atomic Orange tint coat or metallic like the later (post 2008) Vette’s received? If it’s tint coat that would explain why it looks much better in the sunshine. When I had my Daytona Sunset Orange Corvette it looked dull in flat lighting or on cloudy gray days, in bright sunshine it looked glorious.

The Daytona orange would've been a better match for me on football saturdays, as it is a much more "in your face" orange, -- i went to Oklahoma State and i get some good natured ribbing for driving my "Longhorn Orange" car to campus, -- but all other days, i truly like that darker almost copper color out in the light

DeWayne sure does some nice work! I haven't seen a Scissortail yet that wasn't drool-worthy.

You said it !
I may have to put a handful of vintage machines on the market to finance one of those new-fangled gravel bikes if the track machine performs like its supposed to

Been a few months but I figured i'd post up the epilogue on this one --- just picked it up last week ---- took a while to round up parts for the build-out
The Campy Record crankset and B/B I purchased for it had too narrow of a q-factor for the oversized chainstays, so I had to rob my parts bin of a Sugino 75 crankset and BB.
I put a set of training wheels on to give it a whirl at a local industrial park where one of the local clubs used to put on crits --- would have loved to try it out at the track, but in the time frame since I initiated this thread (last December) --- the velodrome closest to me closed down ---
Build is a tapered King headset, 3T cockpit, the aforementioned Sugino 75's and Izumi chain, - pictured wheels are Shimano Pro's , but the bike has a couple more wheelsets for different conditions, tires are Conti Stehers and the topper is a C&V friendly Concor . Pedals are Dura Ace with Errebi double straps
Scissortail Cycles absolutely nailed it on the front tire clearance (for a purpose built track bike that is ) ! Considering the track is closed, i'm glad he drilled the fork for a brake now , as it still could be used for local time trials to get some more use out of it ------ that's better than having a pretty albatross that can only get used on occasional road trips

Other items above that on the list.
Also, cannot figure out why Campagnolo has not made an Ultratorque Pista crank set.
