Atlantis or Ebisu?

I'm looking for a nice day tour/ overnighter/ easy hardpack trail bike (lugged steel preferred) and am currently looking at the Rivendell Atlantis or the Jitensha Studio Ebisu. Just wondering if anyone's had the chance to compare these two bikes and what their thoughts are. They both seem to be extremely well thought-out and put-together bikes.

On a separate note, does anyone know of any bike makers on the east coast of similar quality and bent to Rivendell and Jitensha?

What size frame are you looking for?

And why an Atlantis and not a Rambouiller?

Yeah, the Ram seems more fitting for your needs...

I think of the Rambouillet as a pure road bike, while the Atlantis is an all-rounder that will be more at home on trails. I think the Atlantis is perfect for the type of riding you mentioned. I'm less familiar with the Ebisu. I live ten minutes away from both shops, but I haven't yet made it to either one. I don't know of any east coast builders that make anything similar, but Harris in West Newton, MA sells the Atlantis. I think that choosing between an Atlantis and an Ebisu is like having to choose between a BMW and a Mercedes. You can't go wrong either way.

I want to run 34 to 38 mm tires on the bike, w/ fenders. As I understand it, this is pushing the limit on the Rambo.

Look at the Hampsten Strada Bianca
https://www.hampsten.com/Bikes/Gravel...adabianca.html
sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
Hampsten steel frames are built by either
Carl strong or Dave Levy neither one of them is a slouch
by any means.

Thanks Lo, but I want lugs! Lugs, Lugs and more Lugs! I have my go-fast bike (Speciailized Allez Elite) which is fun for what it does. I have my beater (old Giant Yukon). Now I'm looking for an efficient bike that I can use for a number of things, that happens to be a beautiful (but sturdy) work of metalurgical art.

And Lo, I'm in the process of reading Idoru again.

Lugs are great, check out some of the other stuff that Hampsten is
doing, especially with Doug Brooks.
I think the Strada Bianca is one of the most practicle bikes I've heard of.
You might want to speak to Dave Kirk ( www.kirkframeworks.com )
he will build anything you spec, lugged of course.
Reading stephenson diamond age, ok book. I'm about due for a repeat
of Neuromnancer (speaking of wintermute).
