Motobecane dating
Dear All,
I just picked up a Motobecane from the street corner. It is labelled as "special 15" The frame is lugged of low end 1020 tubes. The fork is half chromed. drop outs not forged. Alloy motobecane branded crank set, Huret shifting. Rear hub is probably a replacement. Dia Come Center bulls with Weinmann levers (the last may be also a replacement). Thorough paint job. That's what I have seen at first glance. Overall nothing exceptional but made with a class more care than other 70's to 80's motobecanes I have seen. Any idea of the dating or a bit more back ground?
TIA and regards

I had a Moto Mirage back in '72 that had similar brakes by description and Huret "Allvit" derailleurs.
Sorry, cant help with much more. Sounds like an interesting find!

An other feature what I did not have seen before at cheap Motobecanes are the lugs at the seat stays. They are looking like those in https://www.classicrendezvous.com/ima...s/LECHAMP1.JPG

I had a Moto Mirage (circa ~ 1976) that was made of 1020 tubing. Here's a not so good pic:

Motobecane had switched to 2040 tubing by 1978. The line-ups for 1973-1975 do not mention a Special 15. The presence of a Motobecane branded crankset would indicate that it is probably from 1976-1977, as opposed to pre-1973.
