Friction to index on a Super Course-How tough???

I hate to do it, but I may have to. My beloved Schwinn Premis just won't stop vibrating. When I climb, or even on flats with a headwind, any more than slight pressure on the pedals and i get a "vrrrrrrrr-vrrrrrrr-vrrrrrrrr-vrrrrrrrr" from somewhere. 2 LBS can't figure it out (they've tried everything, and the bike cost me $100 15 years ago, so it's not that big a deal), and it's making me nuts. So my plan is to swap the Suntour Accushift/Suntour Cyclone components over to my snazzy chromed Raliegh Super Course (circa 1984). The bike rides wonderfully, just like to upgrade from friction to indexed. Is this undertaking worth the effort? As I type this I'm starting to think "no".

Also, is the Super Course a higher-line Raleigh? It seems lighter than the Schwinn.

If every everything swaps, what's the issue? The ones that make no sense is starting with old landfill material bottom of the barrel 120 dropout spacing junkue' and wanting to convert it over to new 9 speed sti/ergo shifting.

Should swap out fine. If you were going to 10 speed STI/Ergo ther might be iues but the older ST indexed shouldn't present any issues.

Raleigh SC is a good bike. Reynolds 531 for the maintubes. It's not the top of the liner but far from the bottom. Could well be lighter than the Premis. If its chrome then you get even more cool points.

Retroraleighs.com has alot of info for you.
