vintage gitane
gents,
i just bought a gitane olympic record 2 cycle that is in fantastic condition from a thrift shop. suntour brakes and gears but i am having difficulties with finding clipless peddels that will fit. i paid 10 bucks for it and want to get it ready for the road without spending too much. i tried putting my mtn bike peddels on it but they are too big for the bore. any advice on what i could do to streamline this bike for daily use would be appreciated. aside from removing the reflectors.

What does it say on the crankarms? It could be that you have French threading on the crankset - which would require finding French threaded pedals, tapping the cranks, or replacing them. Hopefully it is something else.

Pictures Please!!
Pictures, I qanna see the bike... especially the decals. USAZorro is right, pedals most likely are french thread, get a pic of the crank and rings and then we can see which one you have.

Suntour mechs may be replacements. French threading in the pedals certainly possible, although if the bike is late enough it's English. Look on the back of the cranks, sometimes there are markings as to pedal thread. 14x1.25= French.

the cranks say moxie and gitane on the outside and read 163 and "forged in japan" on the inside. i am working on getting some digital photos to post here in the next day or so. i have been learning a great deal about fixies and ss as well from all of your posts on this forum. i had no clue. oh, and the decal is the lower case gitane on the downtube. i am excited to get rolling.

Likely English thread on the cranks, given japanese manufacture.
