Hello Everyone
I am new to this forum and am forgetting my manners from the enthusiasm of finding such a great place.
I have a metallic green AO8/UO8? (RECORD DU MONDE), with large flange Sunshine hubs and the "Frank Lloyd Wright Styled" cut-outs in the lugs. Chrome fork, MAFAC RACER cantilever brakes, Suntour GT Derailleur, Suntour Sprint front derailer, Simplex plastic/stainless downtube shifters and a metal seat post. The handlebar stem had been upgraded to an SR Forged. Seems the aluminum Sugino cotterless 171mm Cranks with 52/40 teeth is not original. I have an old Shimano 600 rear derailer and am considering replacing the Suntour GT.
The serial stamped on the dropout are staggered, it says: "11 9 03 20", I have no idea how to read this for a date.
On the bottom of the BB lug is stamped "RY F4"
Have a set of full narrow painted(white) fenders and a rear mounted generator for a headlight and taillight as well as a chomed rear rack for the bike (all of this possibly factory).
This bike was given to me around 20 years ago and I neglected it as I had been abroad, now cleaning it up and am interested in knowing if it is worth restoring or using it as a beater, I had read a few post about it here, but am confused about this bike, it seems its lighter than most bikes made today.

Right around 1973. Date may be a year or two off, but that's a good target; I think green came in around then; the shifters are on the downtube, not stem mounted, and the decals are right for the period. It looks like most of the original components, with the exceptions of the brakes and shifters, are gone. The fork is a replacement as well.

Poke,
That fork is what a U08 fork looks like when all the paint is peeled off. (And with French paint, it ain't that hard to peel off!) I know, it's exactly like my fork on Mimi.

Yes, it's a UO-8; Poguemahone is about right on the year, although green was available at least as early as 1971. I think Peugeot (mistakenly) went to stem shifters on 1974 UO-8s.
