I have posted the following at Campyonly but I also wanted to see if I could find some help on this site:
I bought a complete Campy tool kit, the one in the wooden box. It was shipped via FedEx, through my account, and it was well packed by the seller. I have been wanting one ever since I was in highschool (many, many years ago)
The problem is that somewhere along the line the box was dropped and the wooden box was damaged. Imagine 48 lbs of metal shifting weight suddenly (argh!). The plastic molded insert that holds the tools in place was shattered in several spots and the bottom of the wooden box has separated.
The package was insured for $2500. I am working with FedEx right now to try to somehow resolve this. I know that these kits are rarely available anymore and to find just a box is nearly impossible.
Does anybody know how can I figure out the value of the wooden box?
There was a box on ebay ($130) recently but it lacked the plastic insert and IMHO it will not be a fair value comparison.
Any help will be much appreciate it as I am at not sure how to go about doing this. I have contacted several people from bike stores in the area that have knowledge of these vintage tool kits and one of them has agreed to speak to Fedex (if FedEx wants to call him).
