Looks pretty awesome to me. Colours are a little all over the place but whatever, is that an AC crank? Are those grafton brakes? Sick if so. That frame is a highly collectible beauty. This was pretty much the best FS money could buy at the time. Is the shock stock? Ever done any work on it? I may have questions when the time comes to check mine over.

I think those are some kind of Sugino cranks that someone powder coated. Really not sure they were a swap meet find. They are beautiful however, whatever they are. The brakes are Grafton knock offs by Tektro. Really pretty nice, but not the real deal.

The shock is stock. It appears to be have been used very little. The bearings seem tight to me. So, I have not torn it apart yet. It does look pretty straightforward though. I picked up a bearing refurb kit for it off eBay a while back, and so when it does wear out, I can get a few more years out of it. Up until just a few years ago AMP still sold these kits. Now you have to find them NOS, which is pretty unusual I would think, which is why I grabbed the one I saw on eBay.

It is really a nice bike to ride. Rather shockingly light. And it gets lots of attention whether you want it or not.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Even though the bike could likely win the dodo contest from another thread here, I love it. Its an exceptionally nice bike that I think even stands up well against a modern bike. That is not true of old MTBs very often.

Here's a 1997 Super V 1000 100SL I picked up at a pawn shop on Sunday. for FIFTY bucks!! I had to scrape some of the fresh blue paint off to find the 1000 and 100SL decals underneath. From what I have seen the basic frame condition is good, why they painted it is beyond me. At least they tore it down first, before putting it back together with Tourney and Altus. Gag! I have some XT and XTR goodies to throw on it thank goodness. The Moto FR headshock fork seems to be working well, once again painted/ruined. Oh well, what's another full resto when you already have one started, lol! Rock Shox Coupe rear shock, that seems VERY strong. I am pretty heavy right now and I can barely budge it. Must be cranked on the adjuster. It will all get ironed out though. What I need more than anything are the swingarm pivot bolt spacers. Right now it just slides back and forth... All in good time!

Thinking of making an Uber V out of it when money and time coincide. That means a shock swap, and finding a 00 and up Jekyll swingarm. Supposed to give massive travel. Not that I need it with the nearest mountain being a 6 hour drive in any direction, but you never know. I might want to ride it off the truck dock at work someday. Yeeeeeah, no..:lol: Heeey, the original colors are red and yellow, just need to paint the lower fork green?;),,,,BD

Actually, I'm pretty doubtful that it's stolen. The serial number is easily removable, not even a cable guide in the way. That would have been done prior to painting it. Also too much money spent on paint. Base/clear paint is probably worth the low end value of the bike. This bike is what's known as a bike shop custom. An owner buys it as an incomplete bike, takes it to a bike shop to be disassembled, takes the frame somewhere to be painted, and then back to the bike shop to be built with cheap low end parts. It happened no less than six times in the three years I worked at a bike shop. They get into the project, and then freak out at the cost of higher end parts. Therefore it gets built as cheaply as possible. It all functioned too well to have been built by a DIY'r.,,,,BD

I had a thought last night as I was looking at a thread about a schwinn homegrown FS with "Sweet spot" technology. There are more than 20 piece to the rear triangle that had to be welded together. My thought was this.... 1990s full suspension is like bad 1980s music. People love for how bad it is.

There are exceptions of course and AMP is one of them. AMP would be like talking heads or something.

Resembles a Nishiki Alien except for the curved seat tube.

Alpinestars Ti Mega had the curve but maybe not the gusset below the downtube at the headtube. Titanium frame, though.

1984 mongoose atb. Has haro kneesaver handlebars installed, getting ready to throw a brooks saddle on it to increase the comfort level.
