Possibly, but the saddle to bar drop is weirdly exaggerated in that photo. It's about 1.5 inches of drop, and the bike feels very comfortable as it is set up.

first draft of the 1992 Rockhopper Sport. Did a little photo shoot today, although the light wasn't great. I have some new grips coming and sadly I lost the suede cover to my seat this afternoon so I need to find a suitable replacement. I bought a donor bike off CL that had Deore DX derailleurs and hubs, laced the black specialized rims to the dx hubs. I did the front as a radial spoke since I hadn't built one of those yet. Bars and fenders are Soma. I went with V-brakes for better clearance over the fenders, brakes are nashbar. I plan to get a set of skinnier slicks once spring arrives. My studded tires are a touch wide for the fenders, but overall things went great with the shakedown ride. A slightly longer stem with a little more rise might be in order. Overall very pleased with the way it looks and rides. Here's a taste. More in the link below.

No hunting but did wind up replacing the brakes, shifters and RD along with all the cables. I was so excited when it was done and hopped on the rollers to test out just to hear the BB creaking like mad. I cleaned, greased and repacked and all is well.

Cool on the Borrego. I love the old GT's and am pissed that I walked by a few at yard sales in the last few years. But, I only paid $25 for this one and sold the RD and RH Shifter on Ebay for that much :-)

I have some work to do on it still. The shifters, brake levers, cranks, and RD need to be changed, and new cables installed. Probably a project for tomorrow, since Sunday is my only day off nowadays. I LOVE the color scheme of this bike more than almost any mountain bike I've ever seen, and I have always wanted one this color. It already lost a pound just from changing the wheels and tires, Coda brakes to Avid Shorty's, and the seatpost. Loving this M700, bigtime!! When I first picked it up with the stock parts, baby seat rack, reflectors, and barends, it was over 29 pounds!!! As it sits right here, it tipped the scales at 25.14 Changing to lighter cranks with alloy rings instead of steel, XT shifters and RD, etc will bring the weight down even further.,,,,BD

Thanks, but kind of bummed right now though... My two young teenage coworkers both took a short unsupervised ride on it this afternoon, and I just found a 1 1/2" gouge/rub on the lower right top tube. There's no way I can be sure if one of them did it, as it was not in my sight all day long, but damn.... It was nearly perfect until then.,,,,BD

Sadly, most of today's younger generation have such entitlement and no accountability issues, that such incidents are commonplace. No respect for another person's property.
No remorse either.

Maybe a simple cable lock through the wheels and frame will deter them of such rides on your expense, while your bike is hanging in the shop.

(The owner didn't even realize my C&V Bianchi I left hanging in the shop wasn't part of the inventory and thought of selling it when he was asked, "How much?")

Okay now a set of proper pics. Loving this bike even more now! LX cranks, Lx hubs, XT shifters, Acera FD for now. I have no aluminum OS tube derailleurs that aren't being used at the moment. I will try to find a suitable replacement for this only rusty part on the bike aside from th headset. Shifts great though! The headset is toast!. It's outwardly rusty, feels gritty, and "indexes" when turning. Thinking of a nice Tange Levin or something once Wednesday (payday) hits. I do have a decent store credit though. Hmmm,,,,BD

Yep, I know it has no crimp ends on the cables, and it's missing a dropout fixing bolt. I plan to remedy these issues before any serious riding. This thing shifts better than some new bikes I've assembled! Spot on, every time!

I LOVE me some Black LX parts. Ive bought two bikes now just to get them. My Trek 890 has one set and my wifes XO-2 has the other set (but she rides so little I'm eying them for one of my other bikes).

Ive never weighed my CAAD2 M400. What did it end up with the rest of the parts swapped out?

Soooo, what do you do if you have a nice older Cannondale, two nearly identical sets of 7speed Trek wheels, and a set of barely used Pasela Tourguard 1.5's?? You guessed it. Street rims to save the sweet old Tioga knobbies from premature wear! The bike got inifinitely quicker from a simple tire change.,,,,BD

As for the weight after the rest of the swapped parts, I don't know yet. The scale is at the bike shop, and it's closed today. Thank goodness too!! I am already working six days a week. If we were open 7 days, I'd probably be there right now... I am going to take the bike and both sets of wheels and get the weights for both combinations...

I do get off at noon for Mardi Gras on Tuesday! Yes, they take it THAT seriously!! If the weather holds, I am going to ride the C'dale to work, and then to the Mardi Gras festivities, weather permitting.

I LIKE! I have a set of Tan wall Paselas I'm planning to throw on my Trek 890 (came with Panasonic gum wall radials). My M400 is set up for street fighting with Specialized Hemisphere 1.95 on the front and Crossroads 1.95 rear. Old picture of it when it was my main commuter but still pretty close. Its more of my foul weather rider now but I do have a set of wheels and a spare cassette I I have thought about puting some knobies on.

Geez, been pouring rain since I woke up, and probably before. Taking the C'dale to work for a weigh in just turned into an ordeal. Have to walk 150 feet or so to the truck and then the stupid pop up vent in the rear roof leaks. Why in the world would Dodge do that? Purposely put a hole in the roof of a vehicle? As soon as it dries up, I am siliconing that thing shut from the inside!,,,,BD

Well, it depends on what your trails are like. The 1 (32t) X 9 (11-34) is perfect for two places I ride frequently. Rolling firetrails, some good climbs but doable (people SS these trails.) But if I really go into the woods for some climbing, I need more gears.

This picture was pre-ride after build up. Immediately noticed the levers needed lowering, adjustment made and hit the trail for the maiden voyage. Nice ride.
