Some nice stuff here that I thought someone here might be interested in: https://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=231&userid=496706
Not mine, and too small for me, unfortunately.

Well, it says Mountain on the chain stay protector. I actually took it for some hard riding on a golf cart path, and the wheels went out of true immediately. 4130 frame, 2x6 friction, tuna-can calipers, steel post, bars, crankset, rims, the whole deal. It's heavy, brother.
A fellow BF member is helping me move it to 90's components, drop a lot of weight in the process. 3x7 Rapid-Fires, Mavic 519's, alloy Raleigh crankset on a lighter road BB, alloy bar, seatpost, modern saddle, modern FD/RD. Once I get calipers, I'm good to go. A lot less steel, a lot more alloy, and it should be less fragile.

Hey Robbie, you haven't picked up brakes for that thing yet, let me know the reach or there abouts and I will see what I can dig up around here. I used to get a lot of cruisers & lower end ATB's with alloy brakes for parts and I may just have something kicking around.

1986 Nishiki Cascade. I bought it from the original owner who obviously took good care of it.

I picked up a newer aluminum frame model with full STX RC 8spd after the clean up of supper storm Sandy, it must have been someones dock bike that fell in a few times as it had a lot of salt water damage ( didn't sit long enough to be from Sandy). I was able to save the frame, shifters, FD & a few other small parts, the rest of the parts were to far gone to save.

My beloved Surly LHT was stolen from me a little over a month ago. After a week or two riding metro to work, I borrowed a friend's rarely ridden early 2000s Nishiki Colorado while I began to consider my options. Didn't want anything suspension and had seen some good commuter/touring conversions of early-mid 1990s MTBs, and chanced across this 21" beauty on CL for cheap, now at home awaiting additional components and wheels (I'm even taking a stab at building up my own front wheel on this one) to get this ready to ride. Trek 830 Mountain Track.
I'm excited to get this built up the way I want it over time. If I like it enough, I may even (gasp) consider foregoing the purchase of another Surly LHT frame and just keep this guy. I'll probably swap out the straight handlebars for the trekking bars I have hanging around and eventually even go with a drop bar conversion with bar end shifters a la touring bikes. Even if I don't keep it forever, this will at least be a test bed and eventual donor bike for a new Surly LHT build. In any event, this bike will be loved and ridden A LOT. (I put between 3000 and 4000 miles a year on my bike commuting).
I haven't checked out the serial number to figure out the model year yet, but it seems hard to pin down an exact year for it... it doesn't seem to match up with any of the color schemes or photos I've come across on Vintage Trek. Anyone got any ideas?

This is what I picked up last year for about $55. A Raleigh Mountain Tour Rocky. I can't find much info on it online, but i've seen a few online all from Canada. Everything was original when I bought it and it hadn't seen much use. The date codes on the front and rear derailleurs are from 1984. I've since replaced most bearings and re-greased everything, added Schwalbe Big Apple tires, a Crane brass bell, Velo-Orange fenders, moved my comfy Brooks B67 over, installed fresh brake pads. The old 6-speed suntour freewheel had a lot of loose bearings in it so i replaced it with a sunrace 6 speed freewheel. I added a 28 tooth chainring on the front so I can actually climb hills in this thing. I just installed a rack and panniers that I purchased from Mountain Equipment Co-op. Itching to replace the foam grips with something nicer.

That bike looks a lot like my 1984 Raleigh USA Crested Butte (Mountain Tour Series). I'm wondering if they just slightly altered the name for the Canadian market? (Crested Butte being too America-specific, Rocky being much more appropriate.) Did yours come with Deore/XT componentry?
NOTE: My bike originally came with the bullmoose bars but I swapped them out.

Finally got some Purple Haze in my stable.. picked this up this evening
1988 Diamondback Ascent EX
Tange MTB double butted tubing with mostly Deore components. Made in Japan (My 1989 DB Apex was made in Taiwan)
Seller's pics
Weird thing about this bike is that it doesn't match the 1988 catalog description. The purple haze/purple smoke paint job is supposed to be on a DB Apex. The Ascent EX was speced with Exage components, but this one is almost all Deore.. and there is even a Deore decal on the top tube (like the DB Apex paint job)
However, it's definitely a Ascent EX frame since it's got horizontal drop outs instead of vertical, which seems to be the one difference in the between the Ascent EX and Apex frames in 1988.
Finally got a nice mtb frame with horizontal drops.. single speed conversion time!

Both of those look like my Mountain Tour - a 1985 (I believe) Tamarack. Also came with bullmoose bars, and looked much classier with a Brooks Pro, but this is supposed to be my rain/lock about town/barhop bike, so it came off. Mine also has Suntour power shifters, a very functional Suntour AR rear derailleur, and 650b wheels with Col de la Vies.

Frantik scores another Diamond Back !! Very nice and very clean example.
Do you think someone got confused on the assembly line and grabed the wrong one ? That might explain the mix-up. Is a dropbar converion going to happen as well ?

From what I've learned, the Tamarack was a 1984 only model in the Mountain Tour line. It was the middle model of the series, and got replaced with the Seneca in 1985, which had standard mountain bike wheels (26", ISO 559). Why did the Tamarack come with 650B? I'm not sure. I do know that Schwinn offered one or two random models in 650B during this era.
Oops. Yeah, I meant 1984 - guess I got it confused with another mountain bike I bought with this one, which is a 1985.

it's like this, only with two holders
I already removed it honestly the bike has brazeons for waterbottles so I dont get the point of putting them on the handlebars where they would just make handling worse when full
