Almost done with my 1993 Diamondback Sorrento rebuild. Got the frame for free, no wheels, and shifters and bottom bracket were shot. New paint, bought some used wheels, used some parts laying around, and bought some stuff on Amazon. All together I'm in for about $120...not too bad for a neighborhood cruiser.

Thanks. That sticker has just been sitting there for a year or so...once I repainted I thought, hell, why not use it on here! Still not quite finished. Got a couple more one-off stickers to put on. The shifters are shot, so once new ones get here I've got to install those and rewire everything.

Crappy "as found" photo of a 22" 1990 Cannondale (I think SM800) that I pulled out of a scrapper's truck for $30 last night. It was well loved at one point but not any time recently. 7 speed XT thumb shifters, XT hubs with 6 speed Uniglide. That U-brake thing is kind of cool... certainly powerful.

It'll be a decent ride again some day.

I had picked up the same Sorrento frame, no fork, and also built a grocery getter/street cruiser. Here is a pic of mine.

I added a Nashbar chromed aftermarket mtb fork, and wheels off a stripped down Nashbar mtb. Alivio shifters, Deore LX RD, and Altus FD.

The gumwalls are Kenda Kruze tires. A 2" cruiser tire. It's still sold as a blackwall, not certain if the gumwall is still offered. I thought they would look good with the gold lettering.

I think that your right. That high bottom bracket would suggest it is a SM800 Beast of the East. If I remember right if you measure from the bottom of the bottom bracket shell to the ground it should be close to 13", the regular bikes were at 11". I almost bought one in 1992, they were sweet.

I tend to only post better deals or higher end models and I try to only post those with photos and/or contact numbers. If you let me know what size you are after, frame/tubing material desired (steel or aluminum), and your budget, casn keep an eye and let you know. There is a 1994 A2T in Redding, XT components on a Tange Ultimate, and appears to be mostly all original. The seller claims the original price paid was $1,800.00, that sounds right because the MSRP was $2,199.00. The ad has been up for a month, so move quickly before it's removed. I am comforted by the fact that I haven't really heard of these frames braking and the reality is that by the time I got my first rocky in 1995 (a hammer) the welding was light years better. I imagine TIG welding was still pretty new in 1991 and many of the workers were not that great at it yet. Granted the bad welds are in hard to reach places, but I honestly was able to weld better after two days in a TIG seminar at UBI in acute angles of the practice triangles and my practice seat tube to BB looked goo enough for a production bike, I think the industry just took a few years to dial it in.

Yeah and my 1992 Blizzard isn't much better and Blizzard were high end and are still covetted to this day, it's also made in the Toyo Factory. I go a message about a 1992 Altitude though which will be the exact same geometry as the Hammer but with lighter tubing and welded in Canada, so it would be a little nice, but it has rock shox. The powerlite fork still eludes me.

Probably caused by a little blowout... if you ever wondered what those drilled holes in a frame are for, it is to allow hot gas inside the frame from making an exit through the weld / braze joint.

Would love to see pics of this one. My old boss at Rocky Mountain Bikes N' Blades (in Colorado Springs, now long gone) had a '92 Altitude with M900 XTR. Man oh man that bike was sexy. Loved those pencil-thin seat and chainstays. It's half the reason I still love a high end Steel hardtail. His was the only one I've ever seen, online or in person.

Rebuild of a Trek 930 that I had scavenged for the wheelset and handlebars/shifters. The only original parts are the frame, fork, brakes and bottom bracket. I did 18 hilly, windy miles on it yesterday.
