^^^^Awsome, especially for zero miles, how rare!!! Hey, is that an Anti Gravity suspension fork? I used to have one of those. I think those XT cranks were some of the finest looking cranks Shimano ever made. I wonder why hardly anyone does those kind of paint jobs anymore? Seems like just about everyone was doing it back in them days.

Interesting to see so many Specialized.. Picked this up as a commuter. Uglier now that slapped it with reflective tape. Wanted to make it less steal proof. Would like to figure out what year. The bike store had 1 more the same size and another little bigger. Would buy another but want a road bike first!

I picked up this '90ish Marin Eldridge for my daughter recently. It has Deore II/DX components. It has kind of a cool speckled paint job. She rides road bikes but wanted to go mountain biking. Picked this up for super cheap so if she doesn't like it I will sell it and make a few bucks.

I took the drop bars off this '88 Rockhopper Comp & put original Specialized (Nitto made) 140mm stem back on. I've got it for sale on my local CL, so hopefully someone will love it & ride it a lot.

Just an everyday pic of the commuter High Sierra. Big apples, fenders, Wald basket, mismatched housing--a down and dirty functional bike. Photo from this mornings rain soaked ride. Getting good use out of the ol' C-Dale panniers that @The Golden Boy sent my way in a trade.

I just picked up this '92 Diamond Back Apex for my daughter. It is in excellent condition and has all Deore DX components. It was super cheap.

There are a few reasons that I am able to do pretty well on picking up bikes.
1. The Twin Cities is a huge bike market
2. Most people are looking for newer bikes while I am looking for vintage
3. I spend way too much time checking CL.

Bought August 2013 ----> First ride today. Purchased a mostly complete bike, sans wheels, saddle and seat post, for less than a Ulysses Grant. I believe the wheelset is from the Trek 950 bike that I sold to Whatwolf earlier this year.
As shown, it is the lightest steel MTB I have come across. I thought I'd try the Forte 26 X 1.25 tires for a while. But my test ride with them was not an ah hah moment; I may not need/want 85 psi tires on an MTB.

I know folks bash these as poor design etc. The issue is they were never really designed for down-hill as the "bashers" point out. They are actually very, light and fast fire-road rockets. I use mine as an around-towner on mostly paved roads/paths. Mine weighs in at just under 26 pounds which is lighter than many of the hard-tails of the day. It is a love/hate thing with the overall design. I know for one thing. Every time I have it out it gathers a crowd asking about it. Not too many in good shape left that I see.

A Rock Hopper I picked up recently. By way of component dating I think it's a 89 according to the info I found on this website. Date of Manufacture of Bicycle Components can be used to date a bike: component dating The group set is Shimano Deore LX. The front derailleur has NI stamped on it. The cranks have NJ. If anyone can confirm this or enlighten me on the correct year of this bike I would appreciate it.
The wheels needed some truing but after some fiddling I got them straight again.
The hardest part working on this bike was mounting the front rack. I had to do some backyard blacksmithing to get the correct bend on the fork bracket. I had to the rack would sit in a flat position and still have clearance for the front brake. The end P-brackets I found at the local hardware store. Other then that I didn't have to do too much except trade out the saddle and seat post.
Update: I found another red Rock Hopper Comp and it was a 1990. So I have a 1990 RH with 89 components.

Heres my 1990 Trek 7000 I got it new in 1990 as a replacement for my 1987 Diamondback Ascent that got stolen.
Full Deore LX group
Black with White speckled paint and neon green logo
(yes the waterbottle cage is also a 1990 model it matched the logo perfect at one time)

Apart than the Tires/Grips/Seat/pedals the bike is all original and in really good shape below is a picture taken a couple years ago with the kid trailer attached.
