The answer to this question may be common knowledge, but is the bolt pattern to attach the outer chainwheel to crank the same on TA, Nervar and Stronglight cranks? I just picked up a Nervar like the one in the picture and I was wondering if I could use TA chainwheels on it. I’m not currently in possession of a TA outer chainwheel, so I can’t check it out.

Yes, I think those old school inner-circle 5-bolt patterns all use the same BCD. At full-size BCDs, however, Stronglight (122mm), Nervar (128mm), and TA (various) are all different. However, if you're handy with a dremel motor, you can pretty easily adapt standard 130mm chainrings for use on Nervar arms by elongating every bolt hole by 1mm toward the crank spindle.

I figured they were a matching bolt pattern. Have you tried that dremel technique on the 130 chain ring?

Yup. That's how I changed my Nervar Star ringset from 52-42 to 52-44, substituting a dremeled Shimano 44T ring for my original Nervar 42T; worked great.

I am converting (maybe) a Bottecchia road bike to Single speed (using the small chainring) I *might* have an outer ring available if I decide to not keep it

would have to compare it to your pic
