27-inch whitewall tires?

I'm currently rebuilding a Peugeot UO-8. I had the frame beadblasted then repainted it, and I'd like to find some whitewall tires to go along with the new and *****in' color scheme. However, I've searched everywhere and haven't been able to find any 27 inch whitewalls. Does anyone know of any manufacturers that make 27 inch whitewalls -- preferably 1.25s? Thanks.

I know there are some "whitewall" 27x1-1/4" tires out there, but not sure how nicely they ride... If you want a nice ride though, and can live with a somewhat brownish gumwall tire, I highly recommend the Continental Sport 1000. Here's a pic of those on my bike:

Duro makes very nice 27X1-1/4" whitewalls. Rated 75 PSI, but I dare say that it could go to 85 on a hooked rim - these things have a damn big bead.

You can get them via your local "Lowrider Company" dealer (essentially, the F&R Co.), or I might be able to special-order you a set from my dealer.

Take care,

-Kurt

Another nice gumwall tire is the IRC Duro-Winner II - comes in both 1 1/4" and 1 /18" sizes.

There is a guy on ebay who sells them regularly. I think they show up in the collectibles/transportation/bicycles or cycling category.

I checked on the availability of Continental 27 x 1.25 Sport 1000 (black with gum sidewalls) and Continental responded that they had been replaced by Continental Ultra Sport in all black.

Ah - I remember the Mavic dealer, when showing off the new stock at the LBS, mention that the 1000 was the only tyre, so far, that Continental has decided to discontinue.

NOT GOOD! That's my favorite 27" tire! I haven't ridden 'em all (other brands), but when comparing tires in the bike shops, the Sport 1000 has the softest feel, with somewhat supple sidewalls. They have a good ride, and roll pretty fast for a fat clincher. I've gotten a couple of puncture flats with 'em(devil head thorns), but 1300 miles this year on the set pictured above, and they barely look worn. I'd better hit all the shops in town, and grab the remaining stock...

Kenda has always been known for god-awful sloppy, slithery whitewalls - they ruin the beauty of the whitewall. These appear to be low-pressure Kendas too, only good up to 70 PSI.

The Duros that I buy have a near spot-on perfect sidewall, as perfect as you'll ever get from Taiwan or China. They also come in both the common road tread as these Kendas have, and brick tread (of which I have a pair for myself), if you prefer a '60s-'70s Bike Boom look.

Take care,

-Kurt
