EBay actually. The guy selling it found it on the kerb waiting to be collected for trash. I put the tires and tubes on and cleaned the chain so far. Will take a look at the cables too so thanks for the advise everyone.

Stunning bikes, extremely well thought-out and produced. My '81 Semi was the same color as yours; I've given up getting it back from the guy down the street. Your Semi gives me a whole 'nother direction to consider on an extremely clean '82 Lotus with a nearly identical frame and components. Probably the finest Pro I've ever seen. Kudo's.

PS: I stopped in a Heathkit store in Anaheim about 30 years ago, and still have a digital clock I built with parts from there, used for 5k and 10K timing.

Just to add to the database, since I haven't seen many of this model, a probably 1981 (ser. no. N1Hxxxx) Centurion Super Tour I picked up dirty and dirty cheap a couple weeks ago. It's not my size, so it's just passing through. I got it mostly to scavenge the Wolber Modele 58 rear rim, and knew I had a replacement Araya to match the most likely original front one. I did a little nail-polish touching up on the frame and a repaint of the the fork which had most of it's paint scraped off and had a lot of surface rust. I didn't want to get in too deep on a bike like this, which will probably only go for $100 locally, so I just did a quick sand/prime and topcoat of metallic gold that I had on hand.

I managed to miss this one while I was moving to Sweden. Amazing! Bikes like this make me so jealous that my 1977 doesn't have all the same chrome details or the triple crank! I still can't wait the couple weeks it'll take for my bikes and other stuff to get here.

Been a while since I've posted an Ironman. Long story short: I was there when it was purchased, along with those same Look pedals. The owner and I were roommates, have known each other about 30 years. In the years since, he's hung it on sheds/garages and got on with life, to include last year's Boston Marathon and testicular cancer. About a year ago, he agreed to see if I could save it, and was clear: don't spend $$, no repaint, etc. His wife said "glad it's gone; toss it."

The seat tube resisted PB Blaster, a bench vise, and everything, so I just found an NOS OEM saddle. Brake hoods were tough to find, so I cut out the inside tabs on 105 hoods and they work fine. Chain was rusted, so Walmart provided one, and the original tires (Panaracer Technova II 700c x 18) were bone-shakers, and I found the Specialized Turbo's for a decent price. 24 hours of elbow grease, and the drivetrain is still OEM, 600EX, and works like a charm.

Sunday, we'll team up in a "run/ride/eat Mexican" even we co-founded in 1986. He won't get there until just prior, so he'll never look at the bike rack, just get ready and run. I was going to rack this and then ride it, but on 2nd thought, I'm going to rack it and leave it, ride a bike of my own. I'll rack it and then point it out to him as I take off.

1987 Centurion Dave Scott Ironman Master. Tange 1 frame/fork. Tange headset and BB (overhauled, but replaced by one from whatwolf-Thanks!). Shimano 600EX 2x6 indexed group with bronze anodized BioPace rings, bronze anodizing on the FD, calipers, brake levers. SR Laprade seatpost, Turbo saddle. Nitto B115-390 bars, Nitto stem. Hubs are 600EX laced to Wolber Super Champion Alpine rims.

Good idea, and I tried it. The contrast draws the eye away from the frame.
It triggered minor OCD reactions, and that's my signal to leave it as is.

However, my friend Charlie will very likely change them to contrast.
He's that kind of guy. Just in case, I'm bringing purple tires.

A recent shortie IM confection. 88 53cm frame in Guiness Foam, new R500 wheelset, Tiagra FD/RD, 8 speed R400 DT shifters, tektro brakesset, old school 105 non-aero (yes, 105 1050 NON-AERO) levers, FSA vero crankset. Rides like, well, an Ironman for someone shorter than me.

This I believe to be a 1987 Expert, serial # N7A5824, originally red and white. The CL seller had painted it orange and did a pretty good job of it. I sold my modern aero TT bike over the winter and decided to build this as a replacement, not expecting a lot from it. But it fits me well and I've had results comparable with my modern bike. It definitely gets attention at the start line!

hi all, i'm a noob here but i thot i'd throw my info in. i bought this bike at a local shop in 1996 new and only rode it 5 or 6 times. it's been hanging in my garage ever since...until now. i'm cleaning it up and going to ride again. believe it or not the tubes still hold air!

Identifying my Centurion Sport DLX year of manufacture . . .

I just had an exchange with Ashley Wright about Centurions. He encouraged me to come here. I have a Centurion Sport DLX. I'd like to know the proper year of my bike, and anything else about it. I'll include two photos. One is of the bike itself. The other is of the serial number. "70639" is all I can make out. I can't see any numbers before the 7 or after the 9. I'll add more details of the components soon.

I would suggest that there is a faint "F" in front of the 7 and that there should be 2 more digits after the 9. If so, the serial number is F70639xx.

This is a normal format of serial number for 1987-88 Sport DLX models. I believe that the first digit is year of frame manufacture, so 1987.

Much thanks Hummer. That makes sense. I'll assume my bike is a 1987. Thanks for resolving that. I looked carefully at the serial number again and my photos of it, and all I can see to the right of the "9" on the number F70639 is a blank space and then the lower half of an "0" or "3" or "6" or "8" or "9." I've posted the best photo I have of the whole serial number. If you or anyone else has any idea about the last two numbers beyond "F70639," please let me know.
