bb size once cottered crank is gone?

now that the spring bike show is quickly approaching i need a shopping list. i've decided to convert my '78 sekine into a ss/fixie, hopefully with flip/flop rear hub @ 126mm/700c. but once i actually remove the cottered crank, what size bottom bracket is required for replacement? i know most of the tech info about bikes but cranks/bb is my weaker link thanks for any ideas. i will start a project thread i guess once i collect the parts etc... (here are some file fotos not taken with this thread in mind) i guess that square taper is the probable goal here. might be able take new pics if required

For your project, you can use any English/ISO bottom bracket designed for a single or a double chainring. In the latter case, you will want to mount the chainring in the inner, rather than the outer, position on the spider.

If an english bottom bracket is indeed a fit, I would be interested in your old cottered crank bottom bracket for a very old school fixie project of my own. You can see the frame at
https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Assuming it gets here from australia, I hope to fit it with a single chainwheel cottered crankset, and flip flop wheels with 65" and 55" gears. You bottom bracket could help.

I wish you luck with your project.

Paul

SKS: does your interest mean i can't just cut right thru the axle to remove this thing? this mucker is stuck, & i have stopped currently trying to remove that sucker. but i havent quit yet. but if the pin is too fussy, i might just cut away with some modern destruction in mind...

John E: it did look to see if a quick swap would move the chain line inwards, but even on the inside the current setup won't work. does that mean i can 'dish' the axle out for a friendlier position? i did consider this cottered crankset just to save $ but the vintage value isn't there. SKS, you can't be serious to need this crap, can you?
