Campy Victory Gruppo

I am looking at what appears to be a mid-80s Italian steel racing frame. It has Victory derailleurs and seat post. From Google I was able to determine that the Victory gruppo was introduced in 1985 but I'm not sure where it lands in the Campy heirarchy.

I'm guessing high-middle, comparable to Shimano 600. Am I in the ball park?

Actually towards the lower end of the Campagnolo spectrum, but still very good equipment. Here's some good info:

More comparable to RSX, then. Thanks.

The 85 hierarchy went like this:

Record C
Super Record
Victory
Triomphe

Though I can't remember whether the Croce D'aune group appeared concurrently with C-Record.

Victory, at the time, was equivalent to Shimano 600

Remember also that at this time at least Campy didnt make lowend parts unlike say Shimano. Assuming Dannyg's heiracrchy is correct I would say loose equivalents would be

= C Record
Dura Ace= Super Record
600=Victory
105=Triomphe

I put C record above everything as a matter of personal opinion, I feel that it looks a million times better and from my limited expierence functions better than period Dura Ace.

I like the group too, but we are in the minority in that opinion. It works as well as anything else that campy made at the time, with the added benefit of being able to run a small inner chainring. If you can find one. Trek positioned the group between nuovo record and super record in the price points when it was first released...

I had an 87 bianchi with victory, and I thought it went like this:

record
chorus
victory
athena

victory being "equivalent" to 105, but the campy was nicer

Croce D'Aune was later around 91 or so.
it was between C Record and Chorus and is a mix of
those components with the exception of the rear derailleur
which is in a group of it's own

I have a '78 Raleigh with a "Nuvo Gran Sport" rear deraileur. Does anyone know where this fits in the Campy line?

Thanks,

Jason

the Gran Sport stuff was the lowest tier racing stuff. There were cheaper campy things in 78 but they weren't spec'ed on real racing bikes. Um, about like mirage today (do they still spec mirage?). gran sport would be roughly equivalent to Tiagra, I think. The brakes were especially non-functional in that group, for some reason.

Thanks luker - notably the '78 Competition came with Weinmann brakes instead of Campy.
