Been looking at mostly vintage Miyata bikes on Ebay recently waiting for something nice to come along in my size and nearly bought a 710 couple days ago. I saw this bike and looked the photos over and saw these dents that were mentioned in the description ...How bad are they exactly? The one pitted dent doesn't seem that bad to me but the one looking more like a crease raises my eyebrow. Is that risky to ride? I'm not really too interested in that bike right now since good condition Miyata's sell pretty cheaply but if it seems safe to ride than maybe I'll think about it. I'm actually more interested in learning what a dent can do. Before joining this site I never would have questioned whether that bike was safe or not because of some dents ..I would have set a downhill personal best on it without thinking twice.
Is that even a good bike -as in medium/higher end?
I see little info on this model on the web.
I asked the seller how the dents got there and she knew nothing. She picked the bike up at a local flea-type thing.

I wouldn't buy it with that crease in it. Of course, you can repair lugged steel frames by replacing the tubes, but if that's the case, the price should reflect the repairs needed.

Nah, I wouldn't buy it - the dent would have had to come from something, likely something big.. there's better deals out there.

What model is this Miyata? Seller had no idea. Figure that since nobody has bought it yet it must be the low end 210. What seems wrong with it? Frame size? Seems in good condition in few photos that are provided ..is it just because the components are not listed? I'm not interested in it -too large for me. I'm just trying to learn something, that's all.

Yeah, I'm not hoping to hear good things about that bike being a steal ..just wondering what dents do really. To me, eventhough I know a dent is a weakened area ..I just don't see it failing because of it. I've never even been atop a road bike, though. My mountain bike is pretty F8*ked up right now and I still ride that thing like I got 8 lives to spare.

It is almost amazing how cheap I am. I will sit here searching ebay and research every bike I pass for a month just to get some cheap $100 bike. I could spend more than that and just get the first fairly modern bike that I see that looks nice ..but I won't. I want a good bike that looks good, rides well and fast and is cheap, that's all.
I have too many hobbies that eat cash.

sunofsand.. I have a HUGE soft spot for nishiki's, beautiful craftsmanship from the folks at Kawamura and that is a nice 600 group maybe 105 mix, It's hard to tell, maybe 1986 vintage. I think it will go cheep because of the dents. The dents will probably not affect the bike and if you want to beat the living snot out of it and have a decent bike that is a good one. The price it Right! and you can always grab a miyata frame later and use some of the parts.
