2 Jc Higgins

I got a jc higgins that we bought for 50 and it needs resto but its said to be either 30s or 40s Im not sure and the other one I maybe picking up today for 35 .Im curious even if they are diffrent models will parts be interchangeable? to help with restoring my first one. When the ground dries up and its not raining Ill get pictures of the one I own and If I can get hold of the other Ill show pictures of that as well.

Your JC Higgins cant be from the '30s, as they were called "Elgin" back then, they changed their names to JC HIggins sometime after WW2 I believe. Those bikes were sold by sears stores, most of the parts will works on other bikes from the same era no problem, can't wait to see some photos, I have a frame + fenders from a JC Higgins (I think) in my basement.. the frame is badly bent however which is why it currently isnt doing anything.

J.C. Higgins bikes were sourced from several manufacturers, both American and also from Puch in Austria. It was a private brand of Sears, Roebuck & Co.

I'm guessing the Ebay one is made my Murray or Huffy. I usually tell by the front chainwheel. I don't think those are Huffy forks, so probably Murray.

You'll find pictures of around 18 JC Higgins bikes in our on-line Picture Database that will help you identify the year and model. Lots of info on them in our archives, too.
