70's Italvega
Hello I am new to the community and wanted to introduce my self. I am a recent U.S.C grad in Los Angeles quickly falling in love with the restoration game and I have just purchased an Italvega and wanted to know if you all had some good wisdom on the subject.
A vintage Italvega road bike from the 70s. This was made in Italy and signed by the designer, picture 2. This is a 21 inch frame. It is in unrestored condition. Everything is original except the pedals, the seat, and the rims and tires of course. Very straight frame, excellent balance, double butted frame. There is some corrosion but considering its age, not bad and certainly restorable.

Go to Cycle de Oro (Greenville NC) and link with the Classic Rendezvous group. They are a very passionate bunch of classic bike enthusiasts. They share ideas and have an annual get together to display their wares. There is a bike shop in Santa Barbara that has a lot of vintage replacement parts. Their online handle (ebay) is bananabrain. I just found a set of christophe cages and Mafac Racer brake parts to rebuild my old ones. Reasonable pricing. You might try Peter Weigles Frame Saver for the rust.
You have a nice bike. Enjoy.

Hi Ben,
Nice bike. It's serial number is 303407 - does the s/n have an asterisk before and after the numbers? I have a 1971 Italvega which I bought new and it is all original except tires/tubes. I displayed it last February at the Seattle Bike Expo.
I've been collecting Italvega s/ns and your number indicates it probably is a 1972 or 73.
Send me your email address and I'll send you a picture of my 1971. I'm restoring a 1972 Super Speciale (s/n *308798*) I also have in a "rootbeer" color many of them had.
Cheers,
