Unidentified Panasonic bike

Hey, I bought bike over the weekend for commuting to work. I'm kinda new to the bike thing. I've ridden but not "ridden" as you all do.

It's model info is all rubbed off. I was just trying to figure out "who" it is.

It's red with all Shimano parts. Dia Compe. Araya 27 x 700cc wheels. Winpista handlebars.

I can't tell what Shimano parts cuz that's rubbed off as well.

It has a serial number of: 8B07391

There's badge on the frame that say Panasonic Cycle, Made in Japan and then the serial number.

It's a got 6 on the back and 2 on the front, I guess making it a 12 speed. The shifters are on the frame.

Oh,.. and I also need to put pedals on this kid, if anyone has any suggestions. And I don't want clipless.

And yes, I've perused yellowjersey's site. I wonder if this kid isn't a Schwinn because of how the serial number is diff from what yellowhersey says.

Well,, help is appreciated! Thanks!

Having retailed Pansonic bicycles, I believe that you have either a Sport 500 or Sport 1000 model

thanks!
what makes you think so? components?
approx what timeframe, do a know?
what differentiates a 500 from a 1000.
how can i confirm your suspicions?
any idea of value?
were they good quality? I think so since it's says "made in japan."

thanks for the help.. tho i've just fired a ton of questions back.

also, i dunno if this helps but the frame is red and it's got like 3 brush marks. like someone took a paintbrush and brushed 3 marks on it. the colors are white, turquoise..and i can't remember the last color (sorry not @ home at the moment). i mean it looks like that but you can tell it's probably part of the original paint because they're all the same size and evenly spaced.
