Pics of my today's project: Nishiki Riviera GT
I have to say myself, this is a gorgeous bike that rides only as good as it looks. Specs are: Tange Infinity tubing, original Suntour LaPree 5spd drivetrain, Sugino Cycloid RD triple crankset (getting standard rings SOON), original Dia Compe brakes/levers, newer Dia Compe hoods, 36h 3x 27" Araya rims on Sansin hubs, Nitto Technomic 100mm stem with Nitto Grand Radonneur 45cm handlebar, Fizik bar gel on the tops of the bars for a little extra comfort. The bike is comfy, has full braze-ons and looks to be hardly ever ridden. Not bad for $75. Shifting is purely friction.
Today all I did was replace the bar/stem/cables/housing, true the wheels, adjust the rear hub, repack the headset and adjust the bottom bracket and brakes, retape the bar and replace the hoods and the bike was ready to go and looking like million bucks. Eventually I may go to a 700c wheelset with 9spd components, bar end shifters and a Shimano threaded headset with Shimano brake levers, but for now the bike works better than it did new and is the perfect ride for bike path cruises and commuting to work. This may make its way (with me on it, hopefully) across the country next summer.
Enjoy--I get to break it in on a 40mi bike ride I am leading with a group of senior citizens on a rails-to-trails path. Should be the perfect bike for the job!

Sorry, but over my dead body! :-D For touring, I wouldn't have anything but a triple! With friction, you avoid the shifting hassles of indexed triples.

My 21 speed indexed touring bike works flawlessly and it is a jerry rig... 105 DT shifters, spread rear of 84/85 nishiki international to 130, 7 speed cassette, sora RD, old deer head FD... Bigbossman, I have a set of takagi cranks with chain ring bolts and BB that came off of a shimano 600 equpipped touring bike 170mm. Interested?
Oh and nice bike by the way I love nishikis!
