Seatpost Diameter for late 70's Le Tour

Check Sheldon Brown's guide that said the seat post diameter for a Schwinn Letour is 26.4, so I bought one and it's too big. Anyone else have a Le Tour and know what diameter seatpost it takes?

Thanks.

Le Tours are a varied breed, from Chicago made to import. Specifics would help someone who knows. They vary in composition (some 1020 some cromoly)

Others may be able to answer "If it isn't xx.x then it is absolutely yy.y" but could possibly be definitive if you provide a year. The year can be determined by the serial number, or the head badge.

Also, a caliper would give you the answer you need... Or with a little less precision, you could make a good guess with any ruler, especially if it is metric.

dgregory57's right, there were lots of le tour models, different tubing, etc. If yours is of 1020 steel, my guess is that it takes a 25.8mm post. I had an '82 Super le tour that took this size post, the frame was of 1020 steel. My '83 and '84, both of 4130 chromoly, take the 26.4mm size you mention.

Great, I'll check it out. If anyone needs a generic 26.4 seatpost, lemme know.
