Nishiki Custom Sport
I'm considering buying a frame to help out an impoverished fellow rider. I have a shot at a Nishiki Custom Sport frame online. The ad says double butted Tange chromoly, but is no more specific than that. Does anyone know anything about the tubing quality and geometry of this model. I hope it is as sweet as my Centurion Elite.

In the early 70's till about 1976 Nishiki Custom Sport was the bottom of the line, later it moved up a notch and the Sport was the lowest tier. If it is from the 80's, don't know. Most bikes at the lower levels, (up to midrange) are best purchased as a whole bike if one is looking for most for the money, a frame set works well IF it is used to get the correct size and transfer parts form an extreme sized frame, bigger works very well as cables can get shorter but never seem to grow no matter how much one waters them.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll wait a little longer. Coworker has an 80's Carbolite Peug and rides about a 60 cm. I figure a good double-butted frame may help the guy out.

The Nishiki frame is made a little bit nicer than the current Peugeot. Possibly enough better to be noticeable, but also possibly not.

It would be presumptuous to say which grade of Tange the frame uses, but it is almost certainly a lower grade. The frame sounds early to mid 1980s and these typically used a butted, CrMo main frame with hi-tensile stays and forks. Geometry was pretty relaxed, 72 degree parallel angles, with a long 1052mm wheelbase. 1984 specs quoted for 58cm frame size.
