Could this be a Huffy Camaro?
Hi all! I am brand new to this site. I was hoping you may be able to help me. This bike has been in my Gramma's garage since as long as I can remember (at least 31 years to give an idea). Rumor is it was my uncle's. I know he was born in 1956, so my BEST guess is the bike is from 1960's. From the small "research" I've done, I'm guessing it's a Huffy Camaro. I would love to find some history on the bike and eventually restore it to it's original condition (as close as possible). I know the seat is looking rough; there are some noticeable dents, rust and scratches. The only identifiers I can find on the bike is the Huffy logo, and the light switch on the "tank." Unfortunately, the actual light is gone. I would love to find a site to help me find a replacement light and seat if possible.
Any ideas on the model or correct year? In restoring this bike, are there any special considerations I should be aware of? Thanks in advanced for your help, and yes I do plan on riding this bike! I do not want to restore it and just look at it
Have a great day

Well, first things first. It's a pretty bad picture. It's from the wrong side, a bad angle, bad lighting, and even worse background. It's also too small to make anything out? Take it outdoors, and photograph it against
a solid color background, or a background that is too far away to interfere with what the bike actually looks like. Take the pics from the right side, as you would sit on the bike, and from a lower angle, not standing over the top of it. The more we can tell about frame and chain guard shape, the easier it will be to guess brand, and era of manufacture. The seat screams mid sixties, but many bikes used that type. Huffy, Columbia, Sears, Murray etc, just to name a few..And use photobucket.com if you're able. It's pretty simple to use, and is free.,,,,BD
Good Luck, and sorry if I sounded a bit harsh. I would really like to see what the bike looks like, and try to help you out with ID'ing it.

Hey!!! No problem! I hope to have a better picture up today; it might not be Ansel Adams quality- but I'll try again!
Just a small FYI- the chain guard is gone from the bike as well. But I GREATLY appreciate any help!!!!

Here are 4 new pictures. I hope they are better. I did include one close up of the light switch- just because I think that is so neat. The tank does say huffy.

My bikes became Vintage
It may well be, but obviously has been repainted, so there are no decals to be seen. See Ebay item 200011812785 (link) for one of those in original condition. It says "Camaro" on the "tank" and has the Camaro red white and blue shield on the seat tube. It looks like the chrome headlight is missing from yours.
(I'm not really into these kind of bikes, but have owned real Camaros since 1968.)

I do not believe it is a Camaro, as "Camaro" would be on the side of the light fixture, I think the camaro came in metallic green also, though I guess its possible it could of came in other colors, im not sure.
There were a lot of diff name variatons on what was pretty much the exact same bicycle, much like buying a sweater. The chainguard would have "huffy" printed on it.
Cool bicycle though, these days huffy is general regarded as department store garbage, but that is 60s department store garbage, and could ride any modern bicycle into the dirt with ease! I'd ride that with pleasure.
oldroads says figuring out when youre huffy was built is easy, If you can find the serial number you can probably decipher what year it came from easily, if the first number in the sequence is 8, its likely from 1968.
Edit: I dont think youre bicycle was repainted as old yeller just said, you can see decals on the fork, most huffys from that era had em there, just like that.

Thanks for the information. From what I can tell is it is not repainted. The original decals are still on. The only "decal" on the seat tube states "Patent Pending." So, maybe it's not a camaro. I'm guessing maybe the pending patent was for the light? These are all guesses, but it's neat to try and figure out.
Thanks for all the comments and help
-Kim
PS- Are there any websites you could suggest to find a chain guard or pedals?

divineandbright mentioned Oldroads. The addy is oldroads.com. Certainly worth poking around and posting a "Wanted Ad."
Not too much into cruisers so that's all I got.

Interesting! I've never seen one like it. And I have seen a lot of Huffy's Murrays, and the like over the last several years. I have heard the name Camaro before, but that green one is that first one for me. Pretty slick, both of them. I forget his new email address, but look for someone named Gordon on old roads. He may very well have the tank light, the pedals, and the chain guard.
