Looking nice, @jade408!

Yeah, the sprung saddles go nicely the more upright you are. Since I've got something like 5 Brooks saddles already, I'd like to save buying another one as a last resort, though. We'll see.

5 brooks saddles? Lol! Well I hope one works.

Thanks! Can't wait for my chain guard. It has been a sweet ride so far. But I got greased locking up once.

Oh, to be clear: four of them have dedicated spots on my bikes. I'm just a little over shelling out another $130+ if the B17S doesn't work out.

I'm so glad someone resurrected this thread! I think I've read every page....at least once!

Cool bikes! I've got 3 now. I will post later photos of my "beater" mixte. A Miyata.

Came across this thread researching a bike I bought today. It's a Raleigh Clubman Lady mixte with Reynolds 531 frame.

It it only cost a few pounds from a local charity shop and the bars were exactly like this when I found it! The paintwork is pretty tatty but there's no rust on the frame and the wheels/tyres are good. I think it's probably early 80s.

It's pretty big at 22.5", and it's far too big for my wife, but I couldn't resist it as a project over the next couple of months.

I'm not sure how much money to put into the build e.g. powder-coating, or whether to just smarten it up by touch-up paint, putting on some better components that I have in the shed and possibly putting on straight or "moustache" bars.

I'll post some pics when it's finished.

I have a Mixte Motobecane which I submitted to the old ten speed galley almost two years ago and it got posted yesterday. I have noticed that when referring to Motobecane models, there is almost a name model following. Mine only says Made in France in big black letters. Could someone please help me to identify which model my b bike could be? Thanks for reading and for replying.

What another Peugeot mixte!

Couldn't resist buying the Brooks Swift! So rather then leaving it laying around, I decided to put it on the Peugeot mixte that I share with my daughter!!

Give the Peugeot that classic look.

After laying around for a few years, this 1976 Raleigh Record drop bar mixte has a new life as a "townie" sporting a 1X5 setup from a similarily aged Sprite. I have been riding it a little, but am looking for a new home where it will be appreciated.

*bump*

I've nearly finished my fiancee's Raleigh build. It's to the stage where it can be road-tested, and I'm even more hopeful that it will be a good substitute for the too-small Peugeot.

Here it is, with "provisional" bar tape -- she wants brown leather.

Front view. In converting from 27" to 700C wheels, I had to lose the original centerpulls, which I'm not too sad about, really. The new Tektro R559's have a much more solid and reassuring feel to them.

Drivetrain shot. I kept the original Raleigh-branded SR crank with 52/42 rings, and mated it to a 13-28T 7-speed Shimano cassette on a Mavic CXP22 + RSX-A410 wheel. As with the Peugeot, I had chain rub on the middle stay when using the smallest cog, so I had to add 2mm of axle spacers to the drive side.

Here's a close-up of that crank. I think it cleaned up pretty well.

The bike came to me with a set of black MTB handlebars and stem, which just would not do. I grabbed a 60mm SR stem out of my stash, and bought a Sunlite/Origin-8 North Road bar. I'm impressed with the quality and lightness:

The shifters are Shimano A050 thumb shifters, which work decently well. I couldn't resist the urge to make a gear chart for this bike. #dorklife

Front wheel is an Open Pro rim on Tiagra 4600 hub, with double-butted spokes that I built up a while back.

Since the bottom bracket shell is one of those oddball 70mm English-threaded deals, it takes a little doin' to make a cartridge BB work. My solution is to pick one in the right approximate length (122mm in this case) and install a lipless NDS cup, so that it can continue to thread into the BB shell rather than getting hung up on the outside:

Topping it off is the Brooks B17S that I haven't used in a while, but am hopeful will do a good job in this more upright context:

Here's hoping she likes it! Certainly rides and operates better for me.

Noah, that's a great find you have there.

What is the seat tube dimension (center of bb to top of seat tube)?

I have one of these that I bought for my wife because I have a matching men's version (also 1975). But I think the seat tube (21") may be too small for her (she's 4"11").

These bike are really rare ... I've only seen a couple in over 30 years of Motobecane searching. Reynolds 531 tubing and nervex mixte lugs make them especially rare.

I see you swapped out some of the original parts ... did you do the modifications or did you get it that way?

I just picked up some freebie bikes in need of repair. One is the identical twin to the blue Free Spirit in post 1102 ^^ ; only someone painted it pink! It looks like the hillbilly step-sister to my daughters pink Sedazzari, which, by strange coincidence, will soon be blue. The top half of the frame is too beat up to rehab the paint.

The 76 Raleigh 5 speed Mixte (ex-Record 10speed) has found a new home. It will be cared for by a nice lady who intends to ride it around her town. Sold at $220 CDN.

Hello everyone. First time posting, but I've been around learning from you guys for quite some time and it's been great. I'm posting because I want to ask specifically what people think of this bike: Vintage Ladies Peugeot road bike

I love the Peugeot Mixtes I've seen in this thread and would like to work one up for my wife. She is about 5'2 and finding a good used bike for her has been a little tricky. When I asked for the size of the bike, the seller responded that the wheels are 26 inches. So, it may work for her? The $40 seems reasonable to me if it fits her, but maybe others would disagree.

Ultimately though, do you think this is a reasonable bike to put road handles on for her to cruise some of the bike paths with me at a 16-18 mph pace? Or this just not the type of bike I should be looking for? Thanks guys and I hope this is the right place for this post.

No, I don't think a 5'-2" woman would be happy on that bike with drop bars going 16-18mph. The seat-to-bar distance would be too long of a reach. Even the bars on there now would be a stretch. Going those speeds for any distance would be less effort on a bike with shorter wheelbase that was meant going fast. The frame appears to be 19" so maybe a tad large to start with.

Edit: You should ready this thread titled "mixte sizing?"

Purchased the frameset NOS off of UK eBay last year. Not sure of the year (late 70's or early 80's?). Originally for 27 in rims. I had it converted to 650B and braze-ons added for center-pulls and front rear racks (Nitto M-12).

Powdercoated by Groody Brothers, I was more than pleased with the job they did. Would recommend them for anyone looking to use them.

I use primarily on the local rails-to-trails.

Components
----------
Campagnolo Veloce Front/Rear Derailleur
Campagnolo Veloce Crankset 46/34
Campagnolo Record shifters
Campagnolo Record Headset
Campagnolo Veloce Cassette 13-29
NOS Ideale 75 Saddle
Kalloy Straight Seatpost
Nitto MT-10 Stem
Nitto Moustache Handlebar (may switch for Rivendell Albastache)

Compass 650Bx42 Babyshoe Pass
NOS Weinmann 750 centerpull Brakes
