Fuji Del Rey

I posted this on the "Catch of the Day" sticky a week or so ago, but I thought it might reach a broader audience in the main forum.

I recently picked up this '84 or '85 Fuji Del Rey for $60. At 62 cm with a 35" standover, it's just simply too big for me. So why did I buy it? 1) I drove about 1.5 hours round trip to see it, as the seller was no help on the phone, 2) The bike is absolutely pristine (seller claims it was ridden 3 or 4 times, and I believe him), and 3) I know I can recondition it and flip it for a modest profit.

Why am I posting it here? I thought there may be a tall Fuji or Japanese bike fan out there who might appreciate this. I could easily recondition and sell, but I'd rather this go to someone who will not abuse it, will keep it stock, and will enjoy it.

I actually started the reconditioning process, but the frame and components are so pristine, I can't bear the thought of someone trashing it.

So, if anyone is interested, just drop me a line. I'm not looking to profit, only to recoup my initial purchase price. Mods, if this is an inappropriate thread, please feel free to delete it.

Here are the specs:

VaLite 4 Quad butted tubes and VaLite fork with Suntour forged dropouts
2 sets of water bottle braze-ons, double eyelets rear, single eyelets front
Suntour Lepree RD, FD and hubs
Suntour 6 speed freewheel
Sugino RT 52/42 crankset
Ukai 27 x 1 1/4 rims w/ stainless spokes
Diacompe levers and 500G calipers
Nitto stem and bars

I was in the process of replacing hoods (done). The calipers are dismounted (goodbye reflectors!), and the cables are trashed. I've kept the housing because it is a clear, stainless spiral housing that looks sharp on the bike. So, it needs new brake cables, and probably new derailleur cables, as they've oxidized over time. They are functional, but I'm sure performance would be enhanced with new ones. The consumables that usually dry are dry. Needs new tires, brake pads, bar tape and tubes. The drivetrain is super clean, but the chain could use a light cleaning and relube.

I can provide additional photos if anyone is interested. If a transfer does take place, my only requirement is that you send monthly photos proving you haven't flipped the bike yourself and that you're not beating the ***** out of it. Preferably, the photos will have a seasonal backdrop (such as deciduous flora, the woman's fashion window at the downtown department store, or some other creative way to prove time change in the photo)

That is beautiful. And just my size. If you were closer (and I didn't already have 3 Fuji's) I would take you up on it in a second. You should have no trouble finding a good home for that beauty!
