Raleigh Record information needed

I just bought a Raleigh Record at an estate sale. The serial number under the seat post is 2601035. The saddle is stamped Wright Saddle Co., Birmingham, England #W39. On the metal by the gear shifts, it is stamped "MILREMO". The decal is a red and gold heron over R & Co., with "The Raleigh, Nottingham, England".

I know nothing about bikes; I bought it to give to my husband who is a roadie. Any information about the bike would be of great interest!

Thanks!

Sounds like a Raleigh Record from 1970, plus or minus a few years. The Wright leather hard as a rock saddles were used during that time. I remember the bike having Huret derailleurs and shifters, Weinmann or Althenburger brakes, a steel cottered 3 piece crankset and nutted hubs. Milremo is a name I have heard of but I do not remember that connection to the shifters or derailleurs. If this is the bike that you have, I hope you did not pay any more than $50 tops for it.

Thankfully, only paid $35. The saddle is as hard as a rock with what appears to be tacks in the back and holes in the center. The other names you mention aren't on the derailleur or other parts. Do you know where I could find out more about the parts that are on it?

Here is a thread I posted a while ago on my Record. There is some good information there.

Pictures are always helpful too so all the Raleigh specialists can check out the lugs and other identifiers.

We might be able to tell you more if you could post a picture or two or pass along other information such as color, names on the deraileurs, cranks, etc.
Also, you may want to contact BF member cudak888 directly he is the resident expert on Raleighs. I have a 72/73 Record, a 87 Record and I own a 78 catalogue with pictures of the 78 Records. I can tell you that the headbadge on the 72/73 bike does not include 'Nottingham, Endland' as the Record of that time was made in the Republic of Ireland. I also have a 78 catalogue, but it does not sound like your bike is that vintage.

Just curious, but is the "Nottingham, England," badge even a way to verify that it was actually made in Nottingham? I have a '71 Supercourse that has this badge, but I'm almost positive it was made by Carlton.
