that's the bike I bid $100 on then upped it to $175 and the seller said he already had had offers of $800 and $1000 for the bike. I told him they must know something I don't. Surprise, the bike didn't sell so he offers the five bidders on the bike a second chance to submit a best offer. I didn't take him up on it.

Not really a numbskull, I just thought it was funny. I think the pic is the icing on the cake...
Actually, I kinda dig the bike (in a funk-o-matic cruiser sorta way).

If I were a little closer to Baltimore, I'd have sent a response.

I don't really have a clue as to it's true value, but I do think it's cool.

If it's one of the originals from the 90's, that was actually MADE by Dyno, around $600+. I emailed this moron and let him know how badly he was shooting himself in the foot.,,,,BD

It takes some nerve to sell a bike when you say it's not even yours.

You can get similar bikes right now for a couple of hundred or so:

I just had to nominate an LBS. They have a not so clean 86ish white Schwinn Le Tour in True Temper 4130 on the sales floor. The tires are brand new, but they're blackwall low end Kenda 27's. The price, $239, reduced from $290. I just kinda shook my head.,,,,BD

Humorous Road Forum spoof of Bike Buying Guide (thanks to dannyg1 for the original text and inspiration):

I own four (company name)'s and think they're among the finest (country) has to offer. Beautifully built and well appointed, they're great whether ("construction type #1 or construction type #2"). They ride and are built very similarly to (other company)'s bikes, which is to say, beautifully. At $(price), I'd say it's a damn good buy.
Which also holds true for the Craigslist Seller's Mentality About Buyers:

I own four Magna's and think they're among the finest Taiwan has to offer. Beautifully built and well appointed, they're great whether electro-welded, or robot-built. They ride and are built very similarly to Huffy's bikes, which is to say, horribly. At $250, I'd say it's a damn good buy.

Same people who offered to buy your Voyageur for $25? Or a Paramount for $40?

Depends a lot on how long it's been in HIS basement.

If someone asks to store something in your place for a couple weeks or so, then two or three months later you're still moving it around to find a place for your own stuff, it's time to get rid of it.

"I believe this bicycle was in high demand for racing i.e.Tour de France during the era it was built." Everyone in the Tour used stem shifters, kickstands and reflectors

From the eBay fraud department ...

Check out his other "Krate" flavors (based on 1999 reproduction coasters) as well ... too funny. (Stick shift mounted on a coaster bike, mounted over top tube decal, custom graphics with a magic marker ...)

I like the 'Free Shipping' prominently featured here in his header...it's not until you actually read the copy that you find out it's for 'local pickup only'!

I prefer this one.
THE RAREST OF THE RARE IN MYTHS.THEY NEVER MADE A FACTORY MADE BLUEBERRY KRATE.I WON OFF EBAY FOR $555.55 3 YEARS AGO AND ADDED A $150.00 [NONFUNCTIONAL]STICK SHIFTER.$555.55 IS A STEAL FOR THIS BABY.SHIPPING FOR U.S. ONLY IS $69.99..[SORRY,ITS A LITTLE DUSTY IN PICS. BUT WHEN WIPED DOWN ITS AWESOME.AND ITS ALWAYS BEEN INDOORS AND NEVER RIDDEN.]
There wasn't such a thing until he got out has trusty magic marker and created one.

why did he put a stick shifter on all of his Krates and all of his "Krates" ?? and then he has a few ads trying to sell the shifters and saying they are rare. How can they be that rare or hard to find if the guy has at least 10 of them? and why start some other ads with "Schwinn Krate" when it obviously isn't even a Schwinn?

This is it folks. The King of Bulls**t.

Suntour command shifters:
I quote "Also available in a 'special' FRICTION-ONLY version where any and all clicks of any sort have been eliminated ....allowing you to run ANY rear wheel you may desire with 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 or 10 cogs ! ....Rivendell riders really love this 'special click-less' version ! ....simply let me know that you wish to have "friction-only" and I will ship these to you upon your winning bid ...."
Will run not only a double or triple, but also a quadruple!?
Oh, and no picture.

HEE HEE!
