hetchins lugs damaged by rechroming?
I bought a 1948 Nulli Secundus - it has Chaterlea, non windowed, lugs. The head tube, forks and front lugs are all chromed but the lugs look like they have partially melted away. I would like to rebuild the lugs and paint it over.
Does anyone have any tips on this?
What kind of material should I use - a putty of some sort?
Many thanks.

It had probably been re-plated since leaving Hetchins, and not by someone who cared about old bikes... I suggest that you send the frame to Baylis or Joe Bell (Joe's a great guy). Either can do a nice repair/repaint. Don't use putty... Most Hetchins are worth the cost of a proper restoration, unless really beat up.
