Merckx or 'no name' with Columbus tubing?
Decisions, decisions! Here's the thing : do I go for a very nice looking, full columbus no name bike for (after a bit of haggling) 75€ or a (I guess ca.'84) Merckx for (no haggling yet, but seller is willing to discuss the price) 175€??? ..... help! Both my size 'an all... Just one more thing; I'll use it as a commuter and will have to add fenders; 'no name' looks like it has a bit more clearance than the Merckx... God I wish I could buy (and store!) both!

The Merckx looks a bit smaller, if it fits, (they had longer top tubes than some) buy that one, hands down, of course the other as a parts bike...
There would be no question in my mind.

Buy the Merckx ! To own a classic is worth the extra euros. Check the headsets and the BB.
Use an MTB fender that clips on the seatpost and live with the spray from the front wheel. I do.
Road bikes are fast and fun and gets you to work better than any other bike will. (exept in the winter)

If you have the money now, buy the Merckx. If you don't you will probably always regret it.
If you ever have to sell it, you'll get a lot of that price difference back.
Best wishes!
